@DoctorSam7 “balance in literacy.” It’s necessary that kids weave and fuse reading rope threads, not become highly proficient in one area to the exclusion of others so understanding instructional recalibration leading to this “balance,” & not tipping too far in one direction. Makes sense.

CONFER! Every day. I try to see 6-8 students in every writing period (in some combination of one-to-one, small group, and/or partnership conferences). The individual or sm. group teaching is based on goals decided upon in conversation with the student(s). #ILAchat
Correlational research is often misleading...I suspect your best readers enjoy reading. Instead of expecting kids out if school practice to save the day, figure out what teachers can best do to teach kids to read better.
