I am thinking about making forum but a few clarification. I don’t intend it so that people abandon X or other mass social media altogether but rather have a place for intelligent discussion, which isn’t possible here. In fact would free some to be more outrageous on here, as it’s a joke. The big obstacle is security. Any such forum would be huge target for hacking etc ; not sure any 100% solution to this exists. Maybe something like a chan style. Looking into options …also must refine idea of entry barriers, selection etc
@evictcache@jinzaburomasaki X has a large legal team, is under US jurisdiction, and is owned by the richest man in the world. Big and influential enough to where a lot of things can slip through.
@IronAgeSlayer It's likely that a decent amount of pro-forum sentiment is just stated preference. 4chan's catalog page's overview of the recent topics may be superior to a list layout. Re posting power it's true that users would develop a reputation (not a bad thing), but posts are date-sorted.
@DuckBrun It is definitely much easier and cheaper to manage a text-only forum. People do tend to like their images a lot, but it's possible that by limiting users to text, better discourse would be encouraged.
@to48864 An interesting design choice here is the hierarchical comment style (a la autoadmit, reddit, twitter, etc) vs the traditional flat forum style. X has a similar approach but cuts posts off with a 'Read more' button & doesn't immediately show replies. This seems easier on the eyes.
@wispem_wantex The advantages of social media are infinite scrolling, an adaptive & varied feed, likes & followers that gamify the experience. X is made for short-form & visual-centric content instead of long-form discussion. This would be recreating Gab/Truth Social which didn't end well.
@john_malone We would write our own small codebase for this due to security concerns and to facilitate better maintenance. Gatekeeping & moderation to maintain high-quality discourse would be a must by a small group of mods. We aren't very partial to Reddit's model of upvotes/downvotes.
Katherine's (the late Ray Peat's wife) publisher contacted us to remove Ray's newsletters and books. Out of respect for Ray's family, we have removed his 4 books and 88 newsletters from the site, preserving his newsletters that were published for free in different papers.
My husband, God Emperor Peatler, has passed away.
I was with him till the end. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
He cherished his time on Twitter, and it healed a part of his heart in his final years.
It made him childlike. Thank you very much.
