Just over a month ago, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Vanuatu. The widespread damage hit 80,000 people.
In response, the @VanuatuRedCross, with support from @IFRC, has been on the ground providing life-saving aid, including shelter, clean water, medical care to the affected communities. Emergency response efforts are now transitioning into early recovery activities.
Small island nations like Vanuatu face recurring disasters, from earthquakes and cyclones to the growing impacts of climate change. While global discussions continue on addressing vulnerabilities in disaster-prone regions, it is essential to prioritise investments in community-based response mechanisms.
This investment is critical to saving lives and reducing the overall costs of humanitarian response.
Today, on Auschwitz’s 80th liberation anniversary, we honor Holocaust victims and survivors.
As we reflect on this solemn day, we renew our commitment to remember them and defend the dignity and humanity of all—without exception.

Volunteerism is the heart of the work of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). With more volunteers, especially among the youth, we can foster generations of Filipino leaders, who champion empathy, compassion, and the willingness to help others.
On Dec. 13, PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang gave a brief talk on student volunteerism during the 17th annual Commission on Accreditation for Local Colleges and Universities- Alcucoa National Conference in Manila.
“We have to incorporate volunteerism in the school today because we are responsible for continuing the generations of humanitarian volunteers...Community outreach programs with organizations such as the Red Cross can be used as a platform for students to hone their values and skills, giving them the opportunity to practice their learned lessons in real time situations," she said.
Special thanks to ALCUCOA President Dr. Raymundo Arcega, Vice President Dr. Elizabeth Montero, and the whole board and executive officers of ALCUCOA for supporting our advocacy for volunteerism.

Once it develops into a tropical cyclone and enters the PAR, it will be the 13th tropical cyclone in the country this year with the local name "Marce". Togetger with @philredcross, @ifrc is monitoring the situation.
