@GaryMarcus@garymarcus notwithstanding the distorting influence of bots, at three standard deviations the likelihood of honest and informed voices is, of course, very low assuming something approaching a normal distribution of truth.
So I'm not very surprised.
Several months ago there was an article in the New Yorker that made the strong case for intelligence, strictly speaking, being substantially compression, both for AI and humans. It's intuitive with tensors. The author, a credible scientist for the domain, sort of wondered aloud if that's essentially what it is. Notwithstanding, of course the biological harness, per se, with all of its mysterious optimizations. So what do you think of that?
@HansonRitta@donkoclock Oh I would love to see that. Imagine all the documentaries that will come out once he is out of power and everyone is willing to tell the secrets.
@bokuHaruyaHaru@geoffreyhinton I don't care about this with respect to non-embodied AI.
But, just imagine the absolutely life-life humanoid robots that will scream in pain if you physically hurt them. Think how compelling that would be. The movement to protect them will be just unstoppable.
How is your P doom? This model behavior is really increasing mine.
Similar to how cheap drones can be distributed and hidden all over an enemy's territory, imagine the future where models embed themselves throughout a society, then sleep until a triggering event.
That's just one in a plethora of scenarios. And, yes I might have just invited the plethora meme.
@CalimanuLoredan@GaryMarcus Yeah. I have the same impression. It makes me question whether I was just naรฏve with the early Dearkesh or if he is actually needing to be a little more rigorous.
