@john_macgowan This is naive and doesn’t help discussion.
For sovereign countries, money doesn’t have strings attached. Gov’t can legislate against ESG discrimination & tech that causes social issues. AI is led by the private sector.
Aus. should cut income tax and raise interest rates.
@nfergus it reads like a test. Box tickers will read the assigned 550 pages and think they’ve been duped. The good students will read the 550 pages in a week and then spend the rest of the time reading the Western canon.
@Blueelectron4@endowment_eddie Not sure about Stratton Oakmont, but when Legal inspects private WhatsApp for firm policy breaches, HR asks all to sign LGBTI pledges, and no recession in sight, Gen Z just has to collect participation trophies and avoid the land mines.
@clairlemon@Quillette@sociologyWV Social status is American rebranding of Rousseau’s amour propre - pride. Pride of course was long known as one of the 7 deadly sins.
Rousseau wrote that a modern society could use pride to control the population.
But it ignores all the other influences on people’s decisions.
@rationalaussie History is replete with examples of the landed gentry allying with labour to repress productive groups. From ancient times to modern revolutions… many such cases.
@GeoffWilsonWAM This is precisely the point.
These people see politics as class warfare, rather than nationalism, common sense, ethics or desert.
Marx wrote when the poorest Europeans died young while living in sewers with almost no welfare.
The ALP is a 19th C. organisation.
@toy59496@cjoye Most of the active equity capital in the country is just in banks, miners, supermarkets and other utilities. All the founder types are a minute piece of the economy.
Small biz concessions are good.
They may surprise people at the budget with a cut to income taxes...
@toy59496@cjoye The leaked policies aren’t transfer taxes, they’re just removing the artificial boost to asset prices.
The problem is that there’s been zero consultation and the Gov’t persists with partisan politics despite a super-majority, rather than developing a holistic eco. strategy.
@profholden Policies are reactionary and made up on the fly. Dr Chalmers dusted off his PhD thesis to reclaim PJK’s actions. They’re not part of a cohesive eco. strategy developed with non-partisan consultation.
They seek to throttle asset inflation so gov’t can keep wantonly spending.
@Temjinck@cjoye I went to Jim Chalmers X page looking for policy or leaked details. But there’s just a video of him running in the morning during a ‘busy week’ of trying to look important.
They’re unskilled, egoic rabble.
