Today we celebrate Kamala Harris who has been sworn in as Vice President of the United States - the first woman, first Black person, and first Asian American to hold the office. It is history (or rather her-story) in the making. Lady Blue Knights, dream it! It CAN happen!
This was a hard secret to keep...but so well worth it! Thank you, Muralist @kimradford and @DollyParton. It is an honor to share in the recognition of Dollyโs contributions to literacy and education through this delightful work of art! #weloveDolly
Ss were SO active today! honestly, they're helping me relearn the material, &they don't even know it. I haven't touched these topics since high school, &every day I learn something new. Today was the a-value of a parabola; i then relayed to my TC friends & we all learned today!
โIt is so much easier teaching virtually than teaching in person, which is why teachers donโt want to go back.โ

not a hopeful outlook for in-person student teaching next semester, but definitely more concerned about the health of my students! Either way, I'm excited to continue learning from them.
Dr. Battle announced that all schools could return to virtual learning after Thanksgiving if progress is not made to stop the spread of COVID-19. https://t.co/dRHZHWlrMN
One more week of practicum before I have to go home for break, and I'm gonna miss my students! They have taught me so much in my time thus far, and I can't wait to learn more from them when I get back. High schoolers have such a unique lens; I love figuring it out with them!
This week, I saw an end of year assessment that had students make posters about all that they had learned in the past year. Not only is this a great way for students to get creative in the math environment, but it encourages them to show their favorite way to solve problems!
@aguileramf@DanielBurkhold Coupling "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" and math sounds AMAZING. Definitely need to hear more about this!
A college class had 2 teachers: one male and one female
At the end of the semester, the students scored the male higher on course evaluations, while the female got FIVE times as many negative reviews
Thereโs just one problem: They were the SAME person.

representing counties and their votes as numerical instead of in color! lots of illinoisans are upset because it appears that โmore than half of the populationโ voted for one candidate when, in fact, only 17% of the state voted for that candidate. numbers help!
The typical representations (red/blue counties, % remaining) often do a disservice to the orders of magnitude of difference present in seemingly similar situations during an election.
This graph provided me some clarity. What else should we be using to better represent the data?
Had a student today totally stop me in the middle of a warm up because they had no idea what was going on, & I wish I could be as brave in my own classes! Asking for help is hard, but being behind because you donโt understand the basics is harder. Love seeing my students shine ๐คฉ
But how do you accomplish this?

We had pet show/tell in advisory today & it definitely made my day brighter! small dogs, fat cats, hedgehogs, hamsters, snails; you name it, they've got it! getting to know what the students care about definitely makes it easier to connect with them during this weird time.
I'm the most strict schedule-following & plan-making person I know, and this pandemic throws a wrench RIGHT in all of that. Going with the flow is not my forte, but I guess this prepares me for all the things that will get in my way in the classroom! You win some, you lose some!
