Don’t let anyone ever tell you that voter fraud doesn’t exist. It most certainly has been a problem on both sides in many places for many decades. Every 2 yrs, from August to early November, the media tells you it doesn’t exist or exists in very tiny numbers. But come December...
1994. 2010. 2022.
That's now three times in the last three decades where Democrats have controlled all three elected bodies yet failed to deliver statehood to DC.
If only their mission was to create new ways to ask for money without solving the issue. They're very good at that.
After DC finally elected to inject new blood into the movement, I prayed that Dr. Oye, as a savvy & successful man, would Represent us well.
My hopes were dashed by his 1st week in office when his plan "evolved" beyond statehood.
This is why things never change. #YouHadOneJob
Your periodic reminder that this jabroni directly refused to cover citywide races related to statehood. But when his team isn’t in jeopardy of losing an elected seat, he’s got plenty of time to write about races that affect none of his readers and to talk about statehood.
Well there you have it @echo4dc! The incumbent spells it out when asked why we‘re still waiting for #statehood. My jaw almost hit the floor when I saw a guy who is running for a 25th+ year of doing nothing of consequence throw his own party under the bus. https://t.co/kjPzW6uU79
Public financing sounds great in theory. But is it? DC taxpayers are forced to contribute up to $3million to fund yard signs for people who’ve no chance of winning. Worse yet, what are the odds most of it is spent dubiously? Take FG, for example. $80k from city - where did it go?
I said it in 2018 and I’ll say it again: early voting this early is a colossal mistake. So much can change in the next month. Scandal, stroke, major position flip, down-ballot coverage, not to mention anything new that pops up. Even if you are 110% sure now, you can’t deny this.
@judithdschwartz Am I crazy for thinking that “Water in Plain Sight” is the most important book written in the 21st Century? How do we make it required reading for all of these kids who will be learning from home this fall? ♻️
I stand corrected. Snuck it in before summer recess. While a hollow victory, it’s still a win... unfortunately, moreso for the orgs that fundraise off of it who have no incentive to solve this quickly since they’ll see their paychecks disappear the day after we get our rights.
Don’t want to beat a dead horse, but this graphic should remind u that EHN had all the cosponsors she needed early in 2019, yet somehow couldn’t get party leadership to ever bring it to the floor. The odds of a DC Statehood vote happening in 2020 are now next to nil. #Political🏈
Why would people who really want #DCStatehood choose to replace HR51 (and its 223 cosponsors) with HR5803 (and it’s zero cosponsors)? I’m no congressional expert but this seems counterintuitive; moreso when it happens days before a markup that will likely alter things anyway.
2019 -> February -> Summer recess -> Near future. What are the odds this doesn’t happen and then gets lost in the buildup to the election, effectively pushing it into 2021+? 1:1?
I look forward to @OversightDems marking up @EleanorNorton’s #DCStatehood bill next week, and I will work with Congresswoman Norton to bring this important legislation to the House Floor in the near future.
Oh look! The guy who was elected to push for DC Statehood couldn’t make it through year one of his latest do-nothing term before ditching his 700K+ constituents for loftier political office. The best part is, in order to do it, this lifelong Dem wants to steal the non-Dem spot!!
What an impressive run by these @Nationals. You could tell they had something special in that clubhouse. Congrats fellas! According to yelp here’s some fountains if you want to keep the tradition alive. #WorldChampions#FightFinished
Yesterday was a very bad day for DC Statehood. Between the sad events in the House and the tense events in the Wilson Building, Statehood efforts will likely be hampered in both the medium and long terms...
@tomsherwood Have you ever asked yourself what happens to these types of organizations when they accomplish their goals? More to the point... can’t you see these orgs’ salaried employees have an incentive to AVOID statehood? If we were a state tomorrow, no more paychecks, no more trips.
