🚨𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟎𝟗 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬🚨

In the weeks following the deadly October 29 unrest, opposition groups and online activists called for a nationwide protest on December 09. The date was amplified on social media as a “decisive” moment, with organizers predicting mass turnout across major cities.

But when the day arrived, no demonstrations materialized. Streets across the country remained calm, businesses stayed open, and most citizens spent Independence Day at home with their families. The failure of the planned protest was the product of deliberate, coordinated, and peaceful government strategy.

Below are the key measures that ensured stability and prevented unrest.

𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬
Authorities conducted early, intelligence-driven arrests of individuals suspected of coordinating violent mobilization. These were not broad sweeps, but targeted actions that disrupted organizational structures and denied planners the ability to coordinate nationwide activities.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬
The government engaged religious leaders across denominations to emphasize messages of peace, patience, and national unity. Their influence helped prevent young people from being drawn into confrontations and reinforced the idea that political disputes must be handled through lawful channels.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬
President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s meeting with national elders played a central role in lowering tension. Her direct and calm communication reassured the public that the government was in control and committed to peaceful resolution. Her speech countered online narratives claiming panic or instability.

𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
For weeks, government communication teams countered misinformation, fact-checked misleading posts, and exposed false videos recycled from the October 29 events. This steady digital response weakened the online momentum behind the protest and built public confidence that the situation was stable.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
Tanzania’s intelligence networks closely monitored planning efforts and identified communication channels, meeting points, and mobilisation tactics. Early disruption of these networks meant organizers were never able to create a viable structure for large-scale turnout.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Security forces were deployed in a measured, visible, and non-aggressive manner. Their presence reassured the public and signaled readiness without provoking confrontation. This balance prevented panic and eliminated opportunities for small groups to trigger wider unrest.

𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬
Officials highlighted attempts by foreign-linked online accounts to fuel tension and push protest narratives. Once this was exposed, public interest in the protest diminished, as Tanzanians became wary of being used in broader geopolitical agendas.

𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐲
Public services, transportation, and commercial activities continued smoothly in the lead-up to December 09. The absence of disruption reassured citizens and deprived organizers of the perception of crisis they were trying to create.

The failure of the December 09 protest to gain any traction was not accidental. It was the result of effective planning, coordinated communication, intelligence-led operations, community engagement, and calm leadership.

Tanzania avoided unrest without resorting to violent suppression, demonstrating a model of peaceful crisis management at a time when many nations struggle with politically charged mobilizations.

Heartbroken but relieved Joshua Loitu Mollel has been returned to Israel after 761 days in Hamas captivity. 💔

🇮🇱🫶🏽🇹🇿 While Joshua wasn’t an Israeli citizen, over the past 2 years we Israelis adopted him into our hearts. While he will still travel home to his family in Tanazania, we feel like one of our own is back 🇮🇱🫶🏽🇹🇿

Joshua, 21, an agricultural intern from Tanzania, came to Kibbutz Nahal Oz to learn modern farming and one day start his own agricultural business back home.

Kind, polite and hardworking, he embodied hope and curiosity on his very first trip abroad.

Just two and a half weeks after arriving in Israel, Hamas terrorists attacked. Joshua was kidnapped and later murdered in Gaza - his dreams and his family’s hopes stolen in an instant.

After 761 days, Joshua’s body has been returned to Israel - for the dignified farewell he was denied for far too long.

May his memory be a blessing. 🕯️

Mahali ambapo wananchi hupata huduma sasa pameathirika.

Mungu atubariki sote.

Mungu Ibariki Tanzania.

HH tells Tanzanians not go to the streets, it’s not God’s time yet‼️

“I lost many elections. I had the motivation to go to the streets. I was the first one to say no one goes to the streets… We were patient, and today we’re in office… Remember God’s time is the best.” - HH speech at cde Samia Suluhu inauguration.
