@Minkykiwi The same thing has happened with the Chelsea Flower Show. Behind the facade of a quaint English spectacle, it's a highly commercialised event that bleeds the hoi polloi for cash, packing them in like cattle, while the upper crust attend the real event taking place in parallel.
@trailrunningfan The same things people get from all other kinds of denial: more peace of mind, lower stress, and the avoidance of making personal sacrifices.
@court_college@Lost___London People often say this but things in many ways are objectively shiter now. Mini Cheddars aren't even that cheesey anymore for starters.
@Shrink_at_Large Without any tricks I think people have a natural bias to see others as those with something to offer vs those without or who are a liability. Filtered through capitalist society and any entity that's financially productive is therefore awarded slack to transgress and vice versa.
@leasthellisfun@thirdmetax I think it's important to be sober for at least some of daily life as a presence/witness in the lives of your loved ones. Going through your entire life stoned is a form of dissociation no matter how pleasureable it is or functional and successful you are.
@christinav37745@FilmUpdates Can you degenerates not experience a single slice of media without coughing up a psychotically trivial nitpick about someone's appearance?
