On Wednesday, a collection of media was waiting to enter a room at the State Department for statements on the signing of an agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The Lebanese media took a selfie and I noticed I was in the shot.
Half-joking, half as a protective instinct, I told them they might want to edit me out before posting it. Most of them laughed, realizing the absurdity of the situation.
The reality is that some of my closest friends in media here in DC are people who could suffer persecution back home for simply talking to me. We live in a different world here, and G-d willing, that world is going to keep expanding. And hopefully @BarakRavid’s interview, historic today, will be routine soon enough.
Remembering the brilliant Marjane Satrapi, the extraordinary artist and filmmaker behind Persepolis.
Through this deeply personal and powerful film, she gave audiences a story of identity, freedom, exile and resistance that continues to resonate across the world.

Marjane Satrapi was an icon of the graphic novel. Through Persepolis, she brought a global audience the events of the Islamic Revolution as seen through the eyes of a young girl in Tehran. Her voice reached far beyond the page, steady in its defense of freedom and of the women of Iran.
May her memory be a blessing.

Every dictatorship has defenders.
The Islamic Republic has an entire ecosystem of apologists who manage to turn every execution, crackdown, and act of repression into someone else’s fault.
We have created the Disinformation Playbook to outline common tropes that are pushed by the regime.
Welcome to Version 2 of https://t.co/uCLTOchbSG
Now with our new Apologist Meter to help identify familiar narratives before they finish the sentence.

Turns out that what the regime in Iran were doing with the frozen dead bodies from the January massacres was far worse than what most of us had imagined. And even then we were Iransplained by piss pot western “influencers” and “journalists”.
Watch (if you can) ⬇️

@SepiBordian@choopanam Fully agree that the bowed crown could add another layer of meaning. Really like it! Let me play with it and see if I can evolve it. Loving our collab 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Friends,
In the aftermath of the January Massacre, many of us have been asking how we remember. Not only today, but years from now.
Throughout history, societies have created symbols to carry memory across generations. Symbols give form to grief, help people recognize one another, and create a shared language of remembrance. They become a way for individuals to participate in a collective act of memory and solidarity.
Whether it is a flower, a ribbon, a tree, or a simple mark, a symbol can help transform private mourning into public remembrance.
We are brainstorming what symbol might come to represent the January Massacre and honor those whose lives were taken.
Please share your ideas, sketches, references, thoughts, or cultural symbols in this thread.
What image, object, or mark should help us remember?
Below is my first draft of a concept.
Please add yours to @choopanam thread 🧡🧡🧡
The cypress is Iran’s tree of endurance.
For centuries it has symbolized dignity, memory, and life that survives adversity.
In January 2026, another image entered Iran’s collective memory: rows of body bags.
This mark unites those two images.
The cypress becomes a shroud.
The shroud becomes a cypress.
A symbol of lives lost, and a nation that remains standing.
@DawnAndTheX yes we are still trying to fine tune the meter -- right now its very much linked to the tropes we identified but we need to fine tune it more. please keep feedback coming :)

We can spot regime apologist tropes from miles away. It’s driven me mad watching non-Iranians fall for them. That’s exactly what the regime counts on. So we built something about it:
