The final screen of aluminium tolerance. I'm never nice to my plants. No topsoil just wodjil subsoil. 😬 Bitey Al > 20mg/kg and < pH4 with lime and gypsum trts too. Testing serradella varieties with reference wheat, subclover, medic and lucerne #P4Pastures
@bethpenrose@rickchayes@pasturewise There has been a lot done in the past - especially blackheaded version. Start with a literature search (entomology research).
Avila Yellow Serradella is still battling on at the Bombala #P4Pastures trial in the face of one of the worst springs of the past 50 years. We need rain very soon!
Holmes and Sackett have just published a very important paper on the economics of so called regenerative farming. Well worth a read

Useful experiment inspection hosted by Tableland Farming Systems at this #P4Pastures site yesterday. Remarkable amount of Avila and Margurita serradella still present in persistence trials. Badly need an "average" season to test the potential of these legumes in this region.
Visual assessment of #P4Pastures trial near Gunning supports early data showing differences in soil water: subclover 20% greener in low P fertility plots, likely due to conserved moisture. Forecast suggests this diff. might be short-lived. Piks show scale, 10-90% green.

@Steve_Clark Leura & Goulburn sub clovers are the gold standards we use as controls in this research. Excellent varieties. However we get equiv yield (but not the persistence , yet) from some of the serradellas at lower soil P levels. Sandral at al. 2019 Crop & Pasture Science
Serradellas & Leura sub clover under irrigation to ensure establishment of #P4Pastures experiment in this seriously dry year. Serradella persistence being followed on moderately P-deficient soil (Murrumbateman, NSW). P efficiency of serradellas already evident.
Serradella looking ok and flowering, but sub clover almost completely dead at the #P4Pastues trial site near Adaminaby. A promising result in a tough year, highlighting the importance of using appropriate serradella cultivars in these harsh environments. @newellm_matt
