i think the sea change is so exciting and speaking as a new millennial parent, i've never felt more motivated to find ways to reduce my own smartphone use. it’s also made me far more alert to how many aspects of our society have eliminated the non-smartphone option. (i can’t print out tickets I’ve purchased anymore; I have to download an app to enter a sporting event or concert, etc)

the pressure is rightfully on k12 schools right now but i think there's a lot of room to push to unwind some of the app-only trends governments and companies have adopted over the last decade that shape how adults navigate the world. (which obviously also have been exclusionary/difficult for a lot of people!)

Letting kids pick their own books from an edgy classroom library isn’t going to teach them grammar. This video is arguably mixing issues: using a viral video to push her pet thing.

I would share her concerns if classrooms of kids are being assigned watered-down content.

I would not agree with her if this is a pitch to let kids pick their own books as a panacea for illiteracy.

@alexanderrusso Books not allowed? What publishers and ALA have been pushing as literature does seem different in last 15 yrs. Teachers shouldn't be on the front lines of this fight. Parents and School Boards should work it out and make it easy for teacters to teach and students to learn.

Appreciate these warnings, but how is it different from all the other edTech systems our kids are forced to use? Google classroom has years of most of my children's work product in it. What purposes could it be used for or hacked to give up? I think this part of the backlash to tech in education that we are seeing.

ps I had never read Farenheiht 451 until the summer that the twitter files were released as O was helping my middleschooler with his English class. How can people read that book and not see what we went through! The surface takeaway is the book burners are evil-yes of course! the real evil is that folks didn't miss them. the only thing Bradberry got wrong in the book was the size of the screens!

@RamboVanHalen i ferently agree with you: art is power! and yet the cultural offerings circa 2020-2024 were not beautiful. easy to walk away from. both sides seemed to neglect genuine artists.
