@yacineMTB i'm cooking w/ claude today, and my office-mate is complaining that his codex is off the rails. just /clear and try again, they are all fickle machine gods
Giving a talk in the @Stanford SCIEN seminar this Wednesday (1/3) at 4:30pm:

The topic is “normal coordinates”: a shape representation little-used outside of mathematics—but which turns out to have nice applications in geometry processing & learning.
@emm0sh used to hear this 'computer aided documentation' thing at autodesk all the time and IMO it's ridiculous. CAD tools like F360/etc are amazing environments for visual thinking, experimentation, etc. If you are doing all your design on paper and only using it to make drawings...🦕
@yacineMTB sadly Gradientspace Corp is still an (unsuccessful) lifestyle business. Haven’t figured out how to turn giving-away-software-for-free into money 🤷♂️
Segmentation v2 Just Got Smarter🚀
Smarter boundaries.
Segment your model by structure, not mechanical cuts.
Cleaner parts.
Get precise separation with cleaner edges.
More control.
Simple / Balanced / Detailed
Choose the precision you need.
Fewer retries. Less wasted time.
Built for 3D printing, game assets, and animation rigs.
See results and comparisons below.
I'll be giving a "exactly how bitter lesson'ed is all of 3D computer vision?" talk at the Bitter Lessons CVPR workshop tomorrow at 10:30am, Room 3A-3D. Here's a slide with the overall thesis.
Dust3D 1.1.3 is released with UI improvements and bug fixes.
Recently added Replay feature (Window -> "Replay Steps") to enable quick replay of each step of the lowpoly modelling full workflow.

OFFICIALLY SIGNED: New York just banned online sales of CNC machines, lathes, and 3D printers. Required surveillance software on every one.
And there's a bill in committee to require a background check to buy them at all. Look around you at who didn't fight, or who ONLY appeared to fight once they saw my video views pouring in. 🤔 Video soon!
👋Introducing CubePart, our new work on part-controllable 3D generation from Roblox (to appear in SIGGRAPH later this year).
CubePart generates semantically decomposed 3D assets directly from: a text prompt + a user-defined part schema.
This enables generated assets to plug directly into downstream animations, physics, and game-engine workflows.
CubePart relies on strong text-to-3D pre-training to generalize to open-vocabulary part schemas. This rich semantic backbone allows it to flexibly generate coherent parts for previously unseen schemas.

@LifeArtStudios sorry but that's my point - I don't want to plan out an epic or have any sub tasks. I just want it to do one thing at a time and ask me any time it's not sure, not burn a jillion tokens "thinking"
my suspicion is these models/CLIs are being optimized for "one-shot huge plan/project by a team of agents" type of problems (ie benchmarks) and it's making them shit the bed on "I am typing a prompt and waiting for the result / can answer questions" style of usage
kinda satisfying to watch my robot fighting with Windows MSVCRT linking issues for a few hours, and then basically failing and giving up in the end, the same way I would have
