I was talking to @operaqueenie about this at lunch. Fried and all these other Owners would have us believe that people are spending all day arguing about these issues instead of working. I think it's important to address that fallacy.
"leave politics at home" is not just a privileged stance. It's a luxury. A luxury completely out of reach for ppl not in the majority.
The way these ppl interact with the community leaves no room for ignorance.
They know what they're saying and are counting on your silence.
"Sensitivities are at 11, and every discussion remotely related to politics, advocacy, or society at large quickly spins away from pleasant."
They are quite literally telling you they value their _comfort_ over the _safety_ of others.
So what are you doing about it?
Nothing?
@emlfc oh absolutely i agree with the conclusion, it's just i'm the same age as elliot and the idea that that means middle aged is upsetting, but apparently middle aged is 45-60 so everything is fine
@CommieTragedy @josem11200 @FennecBabe @stephenmdedman @junk_dino @seananmcguire Thirds????????? Elon musk apparently has a net worth over 100 billion, he could have one thousandth and be worth 100 million dollars which is still enough to do pretty much anything and never see any consequences
So what some see as punitive ("taking" a job from a bigoted person) others may see as transformative (making the workplace safer for others and creating a standard for workplaces that considers the safety of ALL workers especially those who have typically been made unsafe)
