The Minister should reconsider the Monday, 24 August deadline and give taxi operators sufficient notice. Road safety is non-negotiable, but enforcement must also be fair, predictable and administratively reasonable.

If government has allowed these taxis to operate for years, it cannot reasonably expect every operator to repair, replace or withdraw a vehicle within a few days. A rushed deadline risks disrupting transport for thousands of commuters, particularly along the busy Wakiso, Mukono and Entebbe corridors.

The Minister should therefore extend and revise the deadline, publish the inspection criteria clearly, give operators a reasonable period to rectify defects, and establish a transparent re-inspection process. At the same time, government should mobilise alternative public transport so that enforcement does not leave passengers stranded.

Safety must come first—but good governance requires that enforcement is preceded by adequate notice, clear standards and a realistic transition period.

The Minister should not abandon the crackdown; he should get the implementation right.

@MarthaKayug The problem starts from the contracts themselves. A telecom never guarantees service uptime in its contracts with retail customers. In accepting terms and conditions, you basically accept they have not guaranteed service uptime. They only do this for corporate customers.

Mortgage registration is entirely controlled by Ministry of Lands. Some MZOs have efficient Registrars while some dont. Other factors such as incomplete previous transactions in the system delay mortgage registration. Banks have no control over how quickly a Registrar of Titles

How can a customer apply for a loan specifically to clear urgent goods, offer property as security, and then you take ages just to register a mortgage?

What makes it worse is that instead of having an efficient working relationship with the Ministry of Lands, everything seems to move through brokers and endless processes. Meanwhile, the customer is forced to look for expensive private moneylenders simply because the bank cannot process the security fast enough.

What is the purpose of applying for a bank loan if the customer must first borrow elsewhere while waiting for the bank?

This kind of delay can destroy businesses. Shameful and deeply disappointing!

Events have happened in this city and often times we credit the artist for a welldone concert. Water Supply Interruption Notice – Kampala East Water Supply Zone

The Management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) – Kampala Water regrets to inform its valued customers that the current water supply interruption affecting the Kampala East water supply zone is due to a power outage impacting water production at Katosi Water Works.

14 killed on the spot in head-on crash between taxi and sand truck on Masaka highway

According to police, the truck driver, who was transporting sand, attempted to avoid road humps installed on his lane due to ongoing road construction.

In the process, he allegedly veered into the opposite lane and collided with the taxi, which was travelling on its correct side of the road.

The impact caused the two vehicles to lock together, with the heavily loaded truck pushing the taxi backwards for about 30 metres from the point of collision.

Looking at all these terrible accidents you sit and wonder what exactly traffic safety officials are doing or what their role is!!! Trucks and buses using highways without rear lights, DMC taxis and trucks with barely any wheel alignment.

@leonkal He who alleges must prove. If you claim unauthorised use, how was one able to input all the correct card details. The presumption is that the card holder transacted or authorised someone to transact.
