Thank you for highlighting this, Mark. The worst part is that real people are paying the price. Families have lost life savings after trusting Ledger’s security claims, yet victims are still waiting for answers, proper investigation and support. These aren’t just technical contradictions - they have life-altering consequences. @Ledger, do right by the victims.
As a regulation lawyer with past in tech, there’s a pattern I’ve been noticing for some time now. Tech companies that are also involved in crypto assets in some way (especially if they also enable custody) structure a large part of their organisation as if they were *merely* a software or, in this case, hardware-based company.
Furthermore, as is the case with Ledger, where there are no regulations that actually oblige them to have a specific governance structure, they often lack a legal team, compliance function, risk operations team… because they genuinely fall into the trap of thinking they’re just building hardware.
No. Absolutely any company that deals with crypto-assets, even tangentially, should structure its team as if it were closer to a financial services firm than a product one. With almost obsessive attention to detail regarding what the worst-case scenario might be.
In this case, and as more information comes to light, it appears that Ledger could face far greater liability for failing to act on the warnings they received regarding the tampering with their products than for the tampering itself.
@CarrascosaCris_ Yes. It’s been over a week, and victims are still waiting for answers while Ledger is busy launching new products, what a disgrace. Customer care isn’t a marketing slogan. It’s time for accountability. These are your customers who have suffered devastating losses @Ledger
@_pgauthier@0xoucan@MagicalTux@Ledger Pascal, when will you stand by “We are with the victims”? You couldn’t be further from it. Promoting another flawed product while victims remain unacknowledged is in poor taste. Do you realise your company gambled with people’s life savings?
Compensate the victims!!!
@thirrrrdeye@_pgauthier@MagicalTux@Ledger It’s devastating. Real people and families are behind these losses. Years of hard work and sacrifices disappeared overnight. Customers trusted a company built around security, one claiming its products are “free from compromise.” @thirrrrdeye, could you DM me?
@_pgauthier@MagicalTux@Ledger Victims still haven’t received proper answers. Your “we are with the victims” statement feels like a slap in the face. Families have lost their life savings, yet there’s no dedicated investigation channel, no mention of aid, and no clear answers to date. Where is accountability?
@MagicalTux@Ledger An article buried deep on @Ledger’s website isn’t a public announcement. It wasn’t proactively communicated to customers. How were people supposed to know? Publishing an article doesn’t absolve Ledger of its duty to inform customers when their life savings are at stake.
@akylles@Ledger@Ledger your customers trusted your brand and security promises, yet they’re the ones paying the price. Take accountability for your failure to properly vet your partners and compensate the victims.
@Ledger@akylles Compensate the genuine victims who were your customers and trusted your security claims and marketing! They relied on your promises to protect their assets. Take accountability and make this right. You haven’t even apologised!
@_pgauthier Compensate the genuine victims who were your customers and trusted your security claims and marketing!
They relied on your promises to protect their assets. Take accountability and make this right.
@_pgauthier This is so out of touch. What about the other victims? Real families have lost their life savings, financial security, and futures. People worked for years to build what they had, and now their lives are turned upside down. Their suffering is not a punchline. Show some empathy.
@insomniac988 100%. The audacity to do this while victims are scrambling for answers. Also, not sure why they claim to stand with the victims when, in reality, they don’t. Victims haven’t received any updates on the investigation or even a dedicated communication channel. It’s devastating.
