In 2013 the Afghan truck in front of us hit a pretty large IED. We were first on scene and I was down range pulling bodies out of the wreckage.
The medic for the platoon was a private. He sprang into action and started giving commands on what to do. I watched in awe as he conducted a field tracheotomy while I kept the person from moving.
The medic was barely 19. In other jobs he’d just be a kid. To us, he was “Doc.”
Everyone is talking about Gayle King and Katy Perry going to space. But all I want to talk about is 1LT Gabrielle White paving the damn way during #BestRanger.

@TheRealDoctorT Hey Doc: I'm getting ready to delete my acct here. Going thru old stuff I came across this thread. Just wanted to say this was among the most powerful, poignant, and underappreciated things I've read on the internet. Thank you, and I love you.

@AaronAngle4@evanscribe It's a VS-17 panel, yeah. It was most often used for signaling aircraft about things like where LZs were or where the FLOT was for close air support, but here it was pressed into an expedient role as a failsafe.
