The Earth System and Space Science Poster Conference will take place on Dec 8, 2023. We invite you to the keynote lecture “Fire in the Earth System: interactions between climate, fire and the atmosphere” by Dr. Rebecca Buchholz @rrbuchholz@NCAR_ACOM. Please register by Nov 27!
In three weeks (7-9 November) the first BBURNED virtual workshop #BBURNED_FEW reviewing the current status and new developments of fire emission estimation will take place. More information, agenda and registration details can be found at https://t.co/pvN0JLfySN
After the recent La Nina 3-peat, scientists detailed a possible link between this rare event & the effects of the Australian bushfires of 2019.
@jfasullo discovered a “Rube Goldberg” machine of climate interactions that led from 🔥emissions to a La Niña.

I checked in with @rrbuchholz, atmospheric chemist with @NCAR_ACOM, to understand why. She’s using @NASAEarth satellite data from MOPITT, MODIS, and other sensors to track the changes.
@UrrejolaElias We found that the atmospheric carbon monoxide (CO) is not decreasing as fast as has been previously. It broadly means that air quality improvements are slowing down. The relationship with climate is more complicated and we didn't study that here.
Pacific NW wildfires have increased atmospheric carbon monoxide, alteringair quality, and raising questions about potential health impacts for large regions of North America @NCAR_Science@rrbuchholz@NCAR_ACOM@NASAEarthData#MOPITT#MODIS https://t.co/VqPJquc3hd

@langleydew I am aiming to come by and chat! It's almost 2:30... so I should probably start journeying from the other end of the Convention Center to get there in an hour? 😬😂
Exciting news! 📰
Two continents. 🇺🇸🇦🇺 Two conferences!
🗓️Save the dates and plan to attend the IAWF Fire & Climate 🔥🌳conference in Pasadena or Melbourne!

Our paper looking at regional #AirQuality trends in carbon monoxide and aerosols (#AOD) is published - woohoo! Couldn't have done it without the extremely valuable long-term (>two decades!) measurements from the @NASAEarth#TerraSatellite.
