@decoratedshed@madeleineebaker Have you seen other Ken Russell movies? It would never have been just like a hundred other 70s movies because set design was always of the utmost importance to him
@MiseryMinister Pretty much. I loved it in a really surprising way but it feels like any and all conversations about it are inherently embarrassing and I’m not sure how to reckon with that lol
The Beach Boys subreddit has been fully delusional for years. They swarm if you say anything remotely critical about Mike Love, even if it is backed by mountains of evidence. Dude is legitimately just a bad guy.
@JBulworth04@ZacharyLipez It’s not about relatability so much as it is interiority. Its not interesting to create a flat cardboard cutout character just to throw tomatoes at it
NEW: A newly declassified report reveals that the CIA was actively involved in resettling Nazis in Canada and that a leading CIA officer in charge of resettlement operations was later the CIA’s representative in Ottawa.

An unfairly maligned movie. It's emphasis on mood and atmosphere over scares is likely why it was hated, but for me it captures the concept of high strangeness in a way no other film ever has.
@aspectsofcruci@MetriAndReyes@Weetoed189328@retrotheodoras But who cares? Is it a sin or something to adapt loosely? The movie is much harsher in its depiction of abuse in the family unit yet King stans somehow find it offensive that Kubrick doesn’t buy into the books’ childishly sympathetic portrayal of Jack
@coopercooperco@capybaroness Honest to God. Loved the first episode and was surprised at how scary it actually was but that ending was just atrocious. I will remember how much I hated this scene for the rest of my days
