Putin said to all missions ‘leave Kyiv’.
Instead, all 32 NATO Ambassadors and the Secretary General visit Ukraine.
Our message is crystal clear: NATO’s support for Ukraine is unshaken
#StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦
🇺🇦🇲🇩 The agreement between Hungary and Ukraine on minority rights is an important step forward. It opens the way for EU member states to advance the work on opening the first negotiation cluster with both Ukraine and Moldova.
Belgium warmly welcomes this development. We have consistently advocated for progress on the accession path of both countries. Ukraine and Moldova are making progress in fulfilling rule of law requirements despite the immense challenges they face. Ukraine is doing so while defending its very existence. Moldova while withstanding constant hybrid pressure.
It is now time to move forward. Opening the first cluster will send a powerful signal. One that Europe keeps its promises, and that reforms are recognised and rewarded.
The road ahead will be long and demanding. Rule of law, anti-corruption, institutional reform a.o., these are serious benchmarks, and rightly so. But Belgium has full confidence that both countries will deliver. And we will support them at every step.

🇷🇴 Full solidarity with Romania. Belgium condemns the crash of a Russian explosive drone into a residential building in Galați, injuring civilians and forcing evacuations. This is unacceptable and irresponsible.
A weapon of war hitting an apartment building in an EU member state and NATO ally is a dangerous escalation that concerns us all. We fully support Romania’s diplomatic response and its call to accelerate anti-drone capabilities along the eastern flank.
Belgian soldiers serve in Romania today, at Cincu, as part of NATO’s Forward Land Forces Battle Group. Allied security is indivisible.
Russia must stop its aggression against Ukraine. That is the only way to ensure that no more drones or missiles endanger the lives of Europeans, whether in Kyiv or in Galați.
@BelgiumMFA@Oana_Toiu
I have asked that the Russian Ambassador to Belgium be summoned today.
Russia’s announcement calling on diplomatic personnel and foreign citizens to leave Kyiv ahead of planned strikes is unacceptable. Threatening embassies is not diplomacy, it is intimidation. And it is a flagrant violation of international law and the Vienna Convention.
Belgium is not going anywhere. We are staying in Kyiv. We are standing with Ukraine. And we will not be intimidated.
There is one aggressor in this war, and it is Russia. The solution to end this cycle of escalation is remarkably simple: Russia must stop its aggression and engage in genuine peace talks.

Tragic news from Buggenhout, Belgium, where a train collided with a bus, killing four people, including two children. My sincere condolences go out to the victims' families and loved ones. Ukraine stands in solidarity with Belgium during this time of grief. @prevotmaxime
🇺🇦 Russia does not attack cities like this because it wants peace.
Last night, Kyiv was the main target of a massive Russian strike. Missiles and drones hit homes, schools, a market and essential infrastructure. People were killed. Dozens were injured. Rescue teams are still working through the destruction.
Whatever narrative Russia may put forward, the facts remain clear: civilians were struck, residential areas were hit, and there is no justification for attacks that terrorise an entire population.
The reported use of an Oreshnik missile is another chilling signal. These weapons are designed not only to destroy, but to intimidate, exhaust and break the spirit of a nation.
It will not succeed.
Belgium condemns these attacks in the strongest possible terms. My deepest condolences go to the victims, their families and all those who woke up once again to fear, loss and devastation.
We are working with our partners to further strengthen Ukraine’s air defences. And we will continue to push for maximum pressure on Russia’s war economy.
Every night like this reinforces our resolve. Belgium stands with Ukraine.
@BelgiumMFA@BelgiumUkraine
Today, EU Member States Ambassadors&representatives at the 🇪🇺Delegation met w/ leaders of @nab_ukr & SAPO. 🇺🇦continues key reforms during the full‑scale invasion, showing its anti‑corruption system works&its institutions operate independently. EU stands firmly with them.
🇺🇦 Last night, Russia launched 1,560 drones and 56 missiles against Ukraine. It was one of the most devastating attacks since the start of this war.
Homes flattened in Kyiv. A school destroyed. Energy infrastructure hit. At least five civilians killed, dozens injured, people still trapped under rubble. A UN humanitarian vehicle deliberately struck twice in Kherson.
Days after proposing a ceasefire, Russia answered with terror. So let no one ask where the obstacle to peace lies.
Belgium unequivocally condemns these indiscriminate attacks. Our deepest condolences go to the victims and their families.
Our support for Ukraine is not wavering. We have contributed to the PURL initiative so that Ukraine can shoot down the missiles that Russia keeps sending. And we will continue to tighten the pressure on Russia’s war economy, sanction by sanction, until Moscow chooses diplomacy over destruction.
Belgium stands with Ukraine.
@BelgiumMFA@BelgiumUkraine@andrii_sybiha
Last night, Russia launched one of its longest and most relentless drone attacks against Ukraine.
Another night of death and destruction.
And the indiscriminate targeting of civilians.
While Russia openly mocks diplomatic efforts, we continue to strengthen Ukraine.
We are finalising a €6 billion drone support package.
And we keep the pressure on Russia’s war economy with ever tougher sanctions.
🇺🇦 Nearly 20,500 Ukrainian children were deported and forcibly transferred to Russia since the start of this war. Children ripped from their families, their homes, their identity. Subjected to indoctrination, militarised education, forced adoption. Their Ukrainian identity systematically erased. This is a deliberate policy to steal a generation.
Today, the EU adopted sanctions against 16 individuals and 7 entities directly responsible for these practices, from officials in occupied territories to the state institutions running re-education camps disguised as youth programmes.
Belgium has always put children in conflict at the centre of its foreign policy. Because there is no greater failure of our international system than when we cannot protect children.
We reiterate our urgent call on Russia and Belarus to immediately ensure the safe and unconditional return of all unlawfully deported Ukrainian children. Every single one.

Sterke ontmoeting vandaag in Den Haag met mijn Nederlandse collega @DefensieMin Dilan Yeşilgöz. 🤝🇳🇱
🇧🇪🇪🇺 On this #EuropeDay, Belgium reaffirms its commitment to an EU built on democracy, the rule of law, human rights & solidarity.
A strong and united EU is key to remain a credible & reliable global partner, strengthening our capacity to safeguard security and prosperity.
🇺🇦 Belgium joins the growing coalition supporting the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
Together with our partners, we stand for accountability, justice and the rule of law. There must be no impunity. Those responsible will be held accountable.
I call upon other states, in Europe and beyond, to join the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.
We hope that broad support for the Agreement will be registered at the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers meeting on May 14-15 in Chişinǎu.
@BelgiumMFA@BelgiumUkraine@BELinCoE@andrii_sybiha@coe
🇺🇦 Belgium fully supports President Zelenskyy's announcement of an open-ended ceasefire starting tonight. Ukraine is choosing peace, not for two days, not for a parade, but as a genuine offer to stop the killing.
The contrast speaks for itself. Russia's proposed ceasefire for May 8-9 is limited to two days to mark its own military celebrations, accompanied by threats of a massive missile strike on Kyiv if disrupted. On the very day of that announcement, Russian strikes killed seven civilians in Merefa, near Kharkiv.
A ceasefire that comes with a threat to bomb a capital city is a PR exercise. Ukraine's proposal is different. It is open-ended. It is unconditional. And it starts now, not in three days. Belgium calls on Russia to accept it and to use this moment to move from silence to dialogue.
Our support for Ukraine remains unwavering. The path to lasting peace requires genuine commitment from all sides. Ukraine has shown that commitment. Now it's Russia's turn.

Brilliant to watch the future Prime Minister of Hungary sharing this personal sightseeing tour of Brussels.
Heartwarming to hear him speak so fondly about #Brussels and #Belgium.
Thank you, Mr @magyarpeterMP, and looking forward to welcoming you back to Brussels soon! 🇧🇪🤝🇭🇺
Led by Theodora Gentzis, Secretary General of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Belgian delegation joined EU partners in commemorating the victims of the atrocities committed in Bucha four years ago, during today’s informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Kyiv.
