@DolphinMossad@benadrylnchill@CuteBrute718 That in itself would be sort of inhuman. We we granted faculties by God to make moral decisions according to our conscience and the laws he has given us. We need to develop the virtue of prudence to be able to do this better. The Church aids us but does not replace prudence.
@DolphinMossad@benadrylnchill@CuteBrute718 I suppose in your example if there were a mass movement against fiber that had dire consequences for a mass segment of the population, it might merit papal comment. But even without papal comment the faithful would be obliged to act in accord with human nature.
@DolphinMossad@benadrylnchill@CuteBrute718 I mean it seems obvious that some things are more or less important in the life of a person and you can't have papal bulls (a sort of outmoded term by the way) on all of them. Even if there aren't papal instructions though, we're still obliged to act according to human nature.
@DolphinMossad@benadrylnchill@CuteBrute718 Now, obviously critics of the Church would disagree and that's fine. But I think it's helpful to know what the Church's claim is even if one thinks it's wrong.
@DolphinMossad@benadrylnchill@CuteBrute718 Nor is it saying, we have arbitrarily chosen or received arbitrary commands to do choice A and not choice B. Rather, it says that the human person was made with such a nature that choice A is conducive to happiness and choice B is not.
@ryanburge Sociologically, it seems from what I know of modern, mainstream (important caveats!) Mormonism that they share many of the traditional trappings, ethos, morality, etc. of conservative evangelical Christians.
@ryanburge Theologically, Mormons are polytheistic. They might hate this categorization but it follows from asserting that the Father and the Son are both divine yet not the same substance. It simply strains credulity to call a polytheistic group Christian in any meaningful sense.
@Speth27@dilanesper Certainly not. But it is an important theological distinction between monotheism and polytheism. The most basic of religious questions (the number of deities) is fair grounds for drawing a distinction.
@jkimballcook But do you worship Christ as a distinct being from the Father? When you say that you worship The Father and you worship Jesus, are you worshipping one being or two?
@livelaughlark@notreallyachola I literally ma'amed and sirred kids in religious education classes I taught as an adult. I also called them Mr. or Ms. [Lastname].
@jennyrozelle@BruceDSteiner Knowing nothing about these matters... trusts are supposed to file taxes right? Does a new trustee come in having to file a whole bunch of years of back taxes?
Dem Sen. Whitehouse says he’s “not impressed” by the allegations against Graham Platner in the latest NYT report.
“Seems like a lot of nothing. I mean, the only one who had anything to say that seemed ‘unsettling’ was a woman who works for right-wing political operations.”
