@DrChrisCombs i believe the abandoned it because of a) mass and b) they didn't think it would hold up to high-energy reentry (mars / deep space). in the everyday astronaut interview, musk said that because of the backup ablatives, transpiration was now mass-adjacent. so.. we can hope?
@J_C_Reviews@mcrs987@PetesGuide probably going to track it until it floods and sinks as the engineering teams back at starbase analyse the flight and then ask for, eg. upclose imagery of points of interest. i also wouldn't be surprised if they took steel and tile samples on request too.
@Jonathan_Blow@FakePsyho i also disliked the movement playing on controller w/ analog sticks. it isnt clear when holding down the stick how many inputs you have sent (like it would be if using a dpad) so i was constantly misinputting.
ps - i just prefer the sticks!
It would be contained within the engine. The pump housings are effectively its own blast shield. Most of the components around the outside from previous iterations of the engine is still present, it's just integrated into the housing components instead of individual bent tubes. That outer 'layer' of all of these small fluid channels acts as the separation between the inner portion of the pump housings and the blast enclosure. It would be very rare to have a failure energetic enough to warrant the use of such protection and even rarer to have one that overcomes it
