Are these the faces of the bursted “Fulani"Jihadists tehrrorising Southwest Nigeria???
These duo allegedly kidnapped a former minister's close family members and kept them for days until some gallant Nigeria policemen smoked them out.
* The way narratives are framed in Nigeria is crazy.
We have a common security problem in Nigeria - and it is not restricted to one tribe or religion. No tribe or religion is immuned from committing these heinous crimes.
Let's unite to fight tehrror in our land.
ANOTHER TRIBUTE TO AN EDUCATED LITERATE – The Story of Muhammad Al-Fullani Al-Kishnawi, the 18th-Century Mathematical Genius from Katsina, Nigeria
This is the last instalment in my “UNEDUCATED” LITERATES series. The earlier posts (and the lively discussions they sparked) can be found on the links below;

and

I chose this figure because he is an educated literate — without quotation marks — whose life exposes the shallow argument that pre-colonial scholarship in Hausaland produced nothing of significance in science, mathematics, or technology. There is extensive, well-documented evidence of advanced scholarship in the Northern region centuries before the arrival of Boko (Western education), a tradition that was later deliberately interrupted to entrench colonial systems.
Muhammad Al-Fullani Al-Kishnawi’s name reveals both his ethnicity (al-Fullani) and his origin (al-Kishnawi, “from Katsina”). Born in 1699, he died in Cairo in 1741 — nearly a century before Europeans set foot in Northern Nigeria in 1823.
He studied at the Gobarau Minaret in Katsina, then travelled to Kanem-Borno, and later to Cairo in 1732 to continue advanced work in mathematics, especially numerology and geometry. He also produced notable scholarship in astronomy and astrology. His writings demonstrate the deep links between geometry and algebra, particularly in his famous treatise on magic squares. Until his death, he taught at Al-Azhar University, one of the world’s oldest centres of learning, drawing students from across the Muslim world.
His most celebrated contribution is his formulation of odd-number magic squares. His mathematical text — still studied in universities globally — explains procedures for constructing magic squares up to order 11. Earlier magic squares had been explored in China, India, Japan, and Europe, but Al-Kishnawi expanded the field by generating odd-order squares beginning with the 3×3 grid. Using geometric transformations (the symmetries of the square, or what we now call the dihedral group), he produced seven additional 3×3 squares, showing how rotations and reflections could generate new configurations while preserving the square’s properties.
He derived formulas still taught today:
The magic constant: n(n² + 1)/2
The middle number: (n² + 1)/2
These insights represent an early step toward group theory, centuries before its formalisation.
(Attached to this is Al-Kishnawis original manuscript c.1740)
His contributions highlight the intellectual depth of West African Muslim scholarship and its sophisticated understanding of mathematics long before colonialism. Yet in today’s Nigeria, Muhammad would likely be dismissed as an “uneducated” or “illiterate” man simply because he wrote in Arabic script, not English. He would be labelled an “almajiri” by people whose only literacy is pidgin English — people who could not recognize algebra if it walked up to them in the street introduced itself.
Shortly after Al-Kishnawi’s era, the leaders of the Sokoto Caliphate produced vast bodies of literature in every area of knowledge - but especially in Islamic thought and jurisprudence - that spread across West Africa and the world.
But after the Caliphate fell in March 1903, and shaped by their bitter experience in Sudan during the Mahdist revolt, one of the British colonial administration’s first act was to outlaw the very system of learning that produced scholars like Al-Kishnawi.
This is an unfortunate part of our history most Nigerians do not know.
Even in Northern Nigeria, many — including people of Al-Kishnawi’s own ethnic group — have never heard his name.
As parting shot I would like to reiterate:
- None of the three tweets are about the 'Almajiri' begging on the street
- It is also not about teaching our kids to learn secular subjects using the Arabic language as medium of instruction (both Arabic and english are foreign langauges to most Nigerians)
- It is also not for everybody - no one expects kids who are more comfortable learning in the English language to be pulled back into learning what is to them a strange script or tongue.
It is about #EqualAccessEducation and, if it takes the incorporation of a different foreign script and a child's mother tongue to educate that child, then no child should be left uneducated - especially if such a kid is already literate one way or the other. And if his already acquired learning tools can be adapted into what is already in use.
There are too many Al-Kishnawis out there disenfranchised and undiscovered because they (or their communities) are not willing to get educated in the western style. That is Nigeria's loss.

Sahara Reporters are truly wicked, dangerous and irresponsible. They are fully aware that in this country, there is absolutely no consequence for deliberately misleading the public. In a shocking display of dishonesty, they went to Instagram, picked a random picture of an American citizen named Aaliyah, they changed her name to “Zainab Muhammad,” and concocted a completely false story claiming she was going to be charged in a court in Zamfara for renouncing Islam.
As usual, without any verification, the fake story spread like wildfire. Useless media blogs joined in, gleefully sharing it and it quickly turned into an excuse to insult Islam, Muslims and Arewa. Until when @AM_Saleeeem, @ishakaa and others called them out, and then the real lady, Aaliyah, also came forward to set the record straight, stating that she had never even been to Nigeria.
And what did Sahara Reporters do next? They quietly deleted the post. No clarification. No correction. No retraction. No apology. No accountability for the public deception they orchestrated. Nothing.
This is not journalism. This is calculated mischief, which is very dangerous and divisive.
Northern Muslims Are Not "Idiots": Omoyele Sowore Got His Facts Wrong About School Closures in Saudi Arabia
Mr. Omoyele Sowore's claim that if he were President, no Nigerian state could temporarily shut down schools over Ramadan is a clear indication that He is uneducated about the Nigerian Constitution.
Even if he were President, Sowore could do nothing to states that elect to close down schools because, under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, primary and secondary education are constitutionally the preserve of states. It is only a person ignorant of the law who would say that if he were president, states would not do that.
In essence, he is saying that if Nigerians ever elect him as their President, he will ignore the Constitution or act unconstitutionally.
As it stands now, there is nothing the Federal Government or the President can do to states that have chosen to rearrange the school calendar to accommodate the Ramadan fast. It is their constitutional right even if you think it is not right.
And again, Mr. Sowore is most ignorant of Islam in Saudi Arabia for saying, “Saudi Arabia where everybody is headed for lesser Hajj—did they close down their schools? You see, those are ignorant Muslims. Basically, let me put it straight: they are idiots."
No, Sowore. Nigerian Muslims are neither ignorant or idiots. It is you who is untutored in Islam as it operates in Saudi Arabia. Please fact-check me. The Saudis traditionally close schools during Ramadan. It was part of their official school calendar. This was only changed in 2022 and replaced with a 12-day holiday for Eid, which the population complained about.
When this change caused social tension, the Saudi government announced a review, which granted Saudi regions the right to determine whether or not to stay open during Ramadan. Which is the same thing happening in Nigeria. The choice of school closures during Ramadan has been given constitutionally to the regions (states), like Saudi Arabia.
That is the essence of true federalism. If you are in a core Northern Muslim-dominated state that elects to rearrange the school calendar to accommodate Ramadan fasting temporarily, and you do not like it, then feel free to move to any of the other thirty-one states that do not close down schools.
And where was Sowore when schools in some parts of Nigeria closed down every Monday for a total of fifty-four Mondays in a year? So, in Sowore's mind, schools can close for sit at homes, but not for a holy period like Ramadan?
Sowore's present stance, like his plan to legalise marijuana (Igbo) if he is elected President of Nigeria, is proof that he is not mature and needs to be tutored about the Nigerian Constitution.
Finally, it is most unbecoming for anyone, most especially a former Presidential candidate, to use words such as idiot to describe Muslims. If he ascribes such a term to people he seeks to govern, how can he expect their loyalty to his government if he is ever elected?
Nigeria is a fragile country trying to maintain a balance between religions and regions. Thus, people should not open their mouths to say what they do not know and misinform the Nigerian public to cause social tensions and breach the peace in Nigeria.

On this Edo State Governor and his difficulties with the English language, his critics display the deepest inferiority complex and colonial mentality. Is intelligence defined by your ability to speak English? How many Chinese speak English? Yet, they are taking over the world. India is currently the fastest-growing economy on Earth, with a growth of above 7%. Yet, Indians do not speak English. They speak mostly Hindi.
You cannot speak your own native language, and you mock a man fluent in Bini and Esan, the two most spoken languages in Edo State? Please fact-check me: Ability to speak multiple languages is a sign of deep intelligence. Senator Monday Okpebholo is more intelligent than you who can only speak English.
This is the pseudo-intelligence that is destroying Africa. We have translated the Bible into almost all African languages, yet we do not have science textbooks in any of our languages.
As a people, we define intelligence by our ability to speak fancy, high-falutin English—the snootier, the better. Yet, we cannot feed ourselves, build our own infrastructure, or develop our indigenous military-industrial complex.
Better learn from the Lukumi Yoruba. The more their singers and movie directors release songs and movies in the Lukumi Yoruba language, the more the world accepts them. The more they do the same in English, the less the world accepts them.
Who told you the English man wants to hear you speak, sing and act in your low level English? Is that not why they make you take TOEFL and IELTS before you get a student visa, even if you have a PhD?
They are looking for originals, not cheap copies that bear stupid names like Paul Benjamin, or Moses Anthony!
Look at Morayo by Wizkid and Lungu Boy by Asake. They are some of the most streamed albums on Spotify Nigeria and Africa. How many English albums made the list? Even Grammy winner Tyla did not make the top three in South Africa, her own country, with her English album. Amapiano dominated!
Please fact-check me: Ten years ago, UNESCO classified the Igbo language as an endangered language. Most Niger Delta languages will go extinct in fifty years. The South African language Xam is now totally extinct. All because Africans want to speak English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic better than the true owners of those languages.
Only Lukumi Yoruba and Hausa are expanding. Lukumi Yoruba is even spreading outside Nigeria faster than within Nigeria. ALL other Nigerian languages are contracting. Go and learn your language instead of mocking the Edo State Governor!
