I write for the @east_asia_forum of the Australian National University on the creeping censorship regime in India and the implications of the new IT rules promulgated by the government of India. @TwitterIndia @internetfreedom@EFF

A Silicon Valley startup raised around $40M and launched a decision model built on almost the same idea I had published a year earlier.
My first reaction was excitement. Frustration came next.
So I wrote a Reddit post with my paper, my GitHub and everything I had done. It blew up, and people asked for a model that could beat the Jev benchmarks. I trained it overnight while travelling back from Trivandrum and published it the next morning. That was 12 to 15 hours of work, sitting on top of years of research.
That became Laya: open source, free to self-host, and #1 trending on Hugging Face.

@yuva213@kunchenguid Shipping faster without guardrails and untested emergent behaviour means the user actually loses. There's a reason they're all calling for a slowdown, much as they think they can't afford to if the other one doesn't in a very prisoners dilemma-esque way.

There’s almost nothing Ms Ranaut says that I agree with but I don’t think there is any justification for physically assaulting her. Her views on the farmer protest were highly objectionable but they were her views & she’s entitled to them. Those celebrating this slap will also have to celebrate them when it’s the bakhts doing the slapping & the sensible people are on the receiving end.
@uttara_dhawan@ViatorTravel@Tripadvisor Surprising that "trusted" brands like these would deny refunds in these cases. Will be mindful of doing business with them
The nation as one must openly oppose Modi if BJP puts him up as a third term candidate for Prime Minister. He has let down Bharat Mata by allowing China free access to swallow 4065 sq kms of undisputed Indian territory and telling us, knowingly, a lie that “koi aaya nahin..”.

All those who hail the Israeli Supreme Court ruling, must also note that it came on the back of intense nationwide protests in the streets. In India too, government agreed for a court stay on farm laws, only when there was an agitation on Delhi's borders

The Railways has issued an advisory directing that all RTI replies to citizens must be cleared by the Zonal Railway General Managers or Divisional Railway Managers.
A PIO is to act independently, as per the RTI Act. This policy to officially seek “clearance” is not envisaged by the Act. Of course, in more important Ministries, it’s a practice for PIOs to seek oral clearances, if not on paper. But they are not bound, as this circular makes them.
This will have a chilling effect on other PIOs who will further restrict sharing information openly. The appeal mechanism will take 2-3 years to exhaust. High chances that the CIC will not order any information disclosure. It will take another 3-5 years for a court to adjudicate, if the RTI applicant has the wherewithal to approach it.
Effectively, the RTI Act is turned redundant.
