A repeat offender has been booked for allegedly deliberately running over a community dog in Jayanagar, sparking outrage among residents and animal welfare activists.

An FIR was registered at Siddapura Police Station following a complaint filed by Badari Prasad M.S., a 64-year-old animal welfare activist and member of the Jayanagar Canine Squad.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on July 24 between 3:20 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on 10th 'F' Main Road.

The complainant alleged that the driver of a white car (KA-05-NK-5893), identified as Adhi, was driving recklessly before deliberately swerving to hit a community dog named Jacky.

The accused allegedly fled the scene without stopping to help. Jacky was later rescued by local residents, taken to a veterinary hospital, and is now out of danger.

Residents submitted CCTV footage that allegedly shows the vehicle abruptly changing direction before striking the dog, along with photographs of the car. They said such reckless driving poses a serious threat not only to street animals but also to pedestrians, children, and senior citizens.

According to the complaint, Adhi is a repeat offender and was previously booked in a similar case on January 29, 2022, involving community dogs in the same locality.

Based on the complaint, Siddapura Police booked the accused under Sections 281 and 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Further investigation is underway.
