Some people are just afraid to live. Helicopters are fun and can do things other aircraft can't. They are particularly suited for certain jobs, and many of those jobs are dangerous.
I've known people who have crashed helicopters and the reason for the crash was nothing inherent in the machine itself, but the nature of the mission it was performing.
There are lots of dangerous activities out there. Live a little.
@TyTheFisch@nikitabier You sure you're shadow banned? Your content pops up on my feed sometimes. I glance at x maybe ten minutes a day (it is not conducive to peace) so I'm not a heavy consumer, but you still make your way onto my screen. I don't think I've ever had porn show up, though.
@scandlenjosh@SanDiegoKnight@Recursion_Agent@CatoInstitute I used to be a registered libertarian and still hold many libertarian views, but as I've gotten older it's become clear that the libertarian viewpoint as a whole is largely based on wishful thinking.
Of the Catholics I know who seem engaged with this kind of thing...they aren't entirely enamored with the new (or the last) pope. It's anecdotal and a small sample size; but I think just like folks feel free to criticize their president, they are emboldened to criticize their spiritual leader.
Let's say since the late 90s... Yes! Two that I can recall, although there are probably more. Very, very anti-gay. Older black guys. I'm not sure if the race matters, or the age. Could be a coincidence, or it could be cultural. Back in the 80s and early 90s I knew more young guys, mostly white boys/men (teens/early 20s) that had intense anti-gay views. They are all older now and I haven't seen them in years. I wonder if they still think the same.
@zunguzungu_III@engineers_feed No one would do it. It's physically impossible. But it's a cute mental exercise describing exponential progression. It's counterintuitive.
That's not the way it works. When you double it the eleventh time it doubles in thickness. And again at twelve. And onward. If a piece of paper is 0.1mm thick, and you double it 42 times (.1 x 2^42) it comes in at a smidge under 440,000km. The moon is a little over 384,000km away.
Many many comments here seem to only focus on the cost of housing. And housing prices have honestly gone up a lot. They've become unaffordable. Except that someone is buying them or the prices would drop. If it's only the boomers, then I guess prices will drop as the boomers drop? Supply and demand?
One thing that is noticeable is that new builds are huge, four and five bedroom, five and six bath monstrosities, in a time where fertility is dropping dramatically. I understand that this is cost affective for builders. I don't understand who is buying the giant homes. It seems to me that modest two/three bed, 1.5 bath homes on 1/8 to 1/4 acre lots would be a sweet spot. Townhouses would make sense in theory, but new ones seem to cost as much as a single family home which makes little sense.
For what it is worth, as a Gen-Xer, I had roommates, with a few years here and there as an exception, until I got married in my thirties. And then I had a wife, who is a roommate on steroids. Almost everyone I know did the same. If they had their own place before long they had a live in girlfriend/boyfriend.
@CNviolations Pocket watch. I carried one for years when I was doing work that prohibited jewelry, watches included. Since the days of the ubiquitous cell phone I will stuff my ear pod case in there.
@CNviolations 40% expectation would drive away many, probably most, customers. No customers means no tips at all. I've never known anyone to tip 40%. This would be the death of the food service industry. Therefore I have to assume this is rage baiting and not serious.
@FirearmFury They both do the job. Effectiveness, accuracy, reliability aren't really a criteria (not counting a certain self firing sig model). So I choose SIG. 'cause Glocks are ugly.
The idea of a permit (permission) for the exercise of a right is absurd on its' face. But IF it is really necessary, it seems that the presumption should be that you qualify and an applicant should be granted instantly, even if it has to be contingent upon a further investigation. Something pops on a check, then move to pull the permit then. Really, if this is truly necessary (I don't think it is) a list of disqualified people, as in people who have had their rights stripped via due process, should make the whole process quick.
This idea that you can't exercise a right until you prove that you should be able to, or pay a ridiculous fee, or take some arbitrary class is, as I said above, absurd.
But since criminals will naturally follow state mandate, I guess it makes us all safer since the bad guys won't be permitted to carry.
