Pope Leo XIV on AI:
Today, we possess the means to connect people and continents instantaneously. Yet at the same time we are witnessing new forms of isolation, material and spiritual poverty, and abandonment. Communication has become much faster, but not necessarily more truthful. Information is abundant, but that is not synonymous with wisdom. Without a shared ethical foundation, the many channels of communication risk multiplying false information and giving currency to words devoid of meaning, thereby hindering dialogue rather than fostering it. Artificial intelligence amplifies this problem.
BREAKING: Mayor Zohran Mamdani just announced the nation’s most expansive student-facing AI policy.
NYC will impose a one-year moratorium on generative AI for students from 2-K through eighth grade, while high schoolers receive twice-yearly AI critical-thinking instruction. A new screen-time policy will also prioritize real, human teaching.
“Children need their teachers and human connection in order to learn and grow.”
NYC is drawing a clear line: protect childhood, preserve human instruction and prepare older students to navigate AI responsibly.
It’s hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton. Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammys and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and — as if that wasn’t enough — helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna COVID vaccine. What a life. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly’s family and her many, many fans.
It should be bipartisan that EVERY school is a no go for immigration enforcement. Not a single child is to blame for where we are. Don’t schools have enough to deal with as is? Leave schools out of immigration matters. Every child deserves to go to school without fear.
What a wonderful moment by NA grad @AOwensDelerme at the #Olympics, captured by amazing photographer for Getty Images, @StephChambers76, also an NA grad! We're proud of you both! #T4L
@GovernorShapiro This is great, but we need to hire people at the university level to help process this paperwork, otherwise recent graduates & current professionals will not see an improvement.
I cannot stress enough how necessary it is for all of us to wake up every morning & believe and insist that we can and must live in a world where children aren't drone-striked at a playground. Israel is counting on your fatigue and hopelessness.
Today is Mother's Day in Palestine. I think of all the injured, killed, terrified, mourning & exhausted mothers in Gaza. I think of all the surviving mothers who're watching their children being starved to death & left to die of avoidable diseases and severe injuries.
I respect you @POTUS and think highly of you…but the “better tomorrow” you are talking about starts by demanding @netanyahu to stop killing children, targeting humanitarian volunteers and press! To open more routes by road into Gaza to feed everyone. To call for a cease fire, with hostages released on both sides! You should call off the arrival of the US Navy. It doesn’t make sense…the effort required to build docks and bring aid by boat vs pushing to allow in the thousands of trucks full of aid waiting at checkpoints! Military intervention even for humanitarian purposes, is not the answer nor welcomed by the people of Gaza…or myself. If anything Arab countries should be the ones! This can be done and handled by @WFP@RedCrescent@UN@UAEAid@anera@wckitchen@MSF@ICRC and others. This Humanitarian catastrophe can be stopped today…make the call now! End this suffering…now! Specially now in Ramadan…#FeedTheNorth
Israel guided 1.5 millions of Palestinians into Rafah. They moved the "safe zone" further and further south, until the Rafah was all that was left. Now they're bombing Rafah, and people have nowhere to go, nowhere to flee. It's genocide.
