Keynote on Track 1: @samaaron, creator of Sonic Pi, with 'Notes on the Synthesis of Time'. A talk about time and sound, in a building made for music. We couldn't resist.

Phones out, for once. @samaaron is back on Track 1 for 'The Phone Orchestra', an interactive evening session to close Day 1. Sound on, please.

@gtrakGT What do you mean? If you’re asking me if i use LLMs for performances then absolutely not. I prefer to have the music come from my brain to the speakers with no mediation.
I totally understand and respect people that do want LLMs to be involved in that pathway though.
AI doesn’t create slop, laziness creates slop.
I haven’t written a single line of code in a year.
Yet I created & deployed SuperSonic, Sonic Pi v5 & Sonic Pi Web with no issues.
If you’re incredibly disciplined & still have a learning mindset you can engineer amazing things.
@jaxcore IANAL but any music you create with Sonic Pi isn't subject to any copyright restrictions - unless you copy existing copyrighted music or use external copyrighted pre-recorded sounds.
So - make original compositions with the built-in synths and samples and you'll be fine.
Ash Weather - coded in Sonic Pi by David McInnis
“Hazy detuned pads, slow tape wobble, dusty half-time drums, hiss.”

The more time I spend working with coding agents, the more convinced I am that they make software engineering even harder
We can do amazing things with them, but unlocking their full potential requires extraordinary discipline and knowledge
What’s this? A “QR Code Link” you say?
Yes, it’s Sonic Pi code encoded into a url that opens ready for you to read, play and edit in Sonic Pi in your browser.
Share your live coded tracks with greater ease!
If your favourite programming consultants are ranting about the transformative potential of AI but aren’t producing incredible awe-inspiring next-level work with it - why are you listening to them?
Seriously.
AI is enabling me to do what I would have been able to achieve with a team. It’s amazing.
Turns out the last 10 years have been me desperately treading water on my own trying to keep afloat financially whilst simultaneously attempting to do deep experimental programming work.
@garethgwyther Of course :-)
SuperSonic is my Wasm (Audioworklet) port of SuperCollider's scsynth audio server.
I've also re-implemented the Sonic Pi language runtime using embedded Ruby (mruby) which compiles to WASM.
