@mattyglesias The corollary of this, is any research that gets published that pushes against the popular left narrative is much more likely to replicate. That is a real problem for those of us in the reality based community.
@BrianCAlbrecht I'd guess the math is right. But constant price discrimination is a tax on your mental well being. It makes you feel like every transaction is not win-win, but win-lose, and you the loser. If we want people to understand that economic activity is positive sum, we should limit it
@bryan_caplan What gets me, we spent 2 trillion on the Iraq war. Even at 20 billion a reactor that would have bought independence from oil and solved the climate problems
@Aella_Girl I expected prediction markets to help with this, but it all quickly became sports betting. It's hard to create institutions that formalize predictive accuracy, it quickly devolves into and word choice and issues with measurement. The right direction but the path is unclear.
@ModeledBehavior Dude statins are generic, they make nothing from them. Doing better than Statins is the only way to make money, I bet this gene therapy will cost more than 20 years of statins. And good for them! I'm first in line.
@levie True! Stuck between people who think it can do it all, think it can't do much of anything, and the self important who want to show you a cool demo, that will go no where to get ahead. I'm the last guy, but at least I know who I am.
@ho_ben@jt_kerwin@mattyglesias@NickJanusch Because there is no more mass media. What could they have the Mr BeastCoaster? The watch other dudes play video games live show?
@wesserbald@christopherrufo Why not make the rate variable so there is never a deficit. Current rate needs to be 24%ish. Then people will vote for lower spending, or accept the increased spending as necessary and legitamate.
@vrexec With respect, we don't know each others finances. Many of us like what we do. I tend to think I'll retire by going back to an IC role. Building things is fun. Work is like doing wordle or the crossword. When money doesn't matter, interesting problems are still fun.
@kimmaicutler Shipping these products is very difficult, Sweden is as big as CA but the north is empty, better think of it as smaller than PA in terms of usable land. So a factory in the middle doesn't need to ship more than 3 hours to any point where people live.
@DKThomp The solution is unpalatable. We do a flat tax, no deductions, with a variable rate the precludes a deficit. Everyone pays the same, all income treated the same, no borrowing except for automatic stabilizers. We'd learn some fiscal discipline. The rate would need to be about 24%.
@CJHandmer This is the result of small families. I only held a baby once before my own. Fewer cousins, and siblings, fewer babies to come in contact with.
@KelseyTuoc@drethelin I would be interested to know if porn tablets made prison less rape-y and safer. I might be okay with that. Let them get fat and porn-brained, rather than buff, and criminally trained.
