In response to the recent fires, we’re accelerating the launch of our fire-resilient, sustainable single-family homes. Originally developed for wildfire-affected families in Northern California, we’re now expanding to help LA communities rebuild.

Yesterday, I visited a homeowner in Pacific Palisades planning to rebuild. The devastation was overwhelming, echoing the pain I felt too familiar. I chose not to take any pictures—it just didn’t feel right.

But amidst the loss, resilience stood tall. My client, like many others, took matters into her own hands. No waiting. No hesitation. She worked closely with adjusters, her mortgage provider, and various fire damage specialists to navigate the situation. A masterclass in action.

Currently, hazardous material cleanup is underway. Water testing has been conducted at 90 sites, but it may take weeks or months before the water supply is deemed safe and fully restored. The EPA plans to store hazardous materials at a parking lot of Will Rogers State Beach, a decision facing local opposition. Until this phase is complete, the soil remains hazardous.

Once hazardous materials are cleared, the Army Corps will start debris removal, prioritizing areas with mass sign-ups. Homeowners have the option to enroll in government-funded cleanup at no cost or manage it through their insurance.

Homeowners can now submit permits for rebuilding. A streamlined permitting process offers 30-day approvals if specific conditions are met: rebuilding on the original site, limiting the new structure to no more than 110% of the original size, and relocating the home to a safer area on the lot if necessary. ADUs are allowed, though it’s unclear if they count toward the 110% size limitation. LA removed ADU lot coverage in 2020, which likely applies here. It’s anticipated that most foundations will require complete replacement.

Much information is circulating, and as things change, my goal is to provide updates to assist those impacted by the fire or involved in the rebuilding process.

We're in the middle of rebuilding homes devastated in previous California fires and given the Los Angeles fire natural disaster and the number of people affected, we've created a helpline so that we can share the latest learnings and help people navigate the flurry of information and newly introduced state relief measures.

Watching the wildfires sweep through Los Angeles has been devastating. Thousands of families displaced, countless homes destroyed—including those of some of my close friends. For me, this isn’t just a distant tragedy, it’s a painful reminder of my own experience of losing a home during the war.

Even after 30 years, I vividly remember the disbelief, fear, and shame that came from not having a place to call home anymore. But what I remember the most, was the kindness of a few people who showed up when we needed help.

Now, it’s my turn to help! I am here to be a resource and to help any LA fire victims rebuild their homes.
