Effects of Finasteride exposure on lifespan and locomotor phenotypes
“Finasteride is one of the core medications for treating androgen-associated diseases in men. It exhibits multiple therapeutic functions, including inhibiting 5α-reductase, reducing dihydrotestosterone levels, and improving conditions, including prostate enlargement and hair loss.
Using Drosophila as the primary model and a mouse behavioral assay as a complementary approach, we combined developmental and behavioral assessments, morphological analyses of motor and sensory neurons, transcriptomics, and genetic methods to investigate developmental, neuronal, and behavioral changes associated with Finasteride exposure and explore their potential molecular basis.
Our results indicate that Finasteride exposure is associated with increased intestinal reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and shortened lifespan in both sexes, together with significantly reduced starvation resistance in males. In addition, Finasteride exposure was also associated with altered neuromuscular junction (NMJ) morphology, reduced locomotor performance, and decreased cask expression.
… Overall, this study reveals changes in lifespan and locomotor phenotypes associated with Finasteride exposure and further highlights the importance of investigating its broader biological effects in other experimental systems.”

Resveratrol/ Inflammation/ Oxidative Stress
RSV supplementation is associated with a modest reduction in CRP, supported by TSA; however, effects on other inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers were null or inconclusive. The absence of a clear dose–response relationship and the surrogate status of CRP limit the clinical interpretability of these findings.

“Raw is always better” doesn’t hold for red cabbage.
-
A study found steaming reduced vitamin C by only ~11%, while boiling cut it ~24%.
Heat also lowers anthocyanins, glucosinolates, and myrosinase (the enzyme that converts glucosinolates into isothiocyanates).
But cooking softens cell walls and can increase bioaccessibility of some phenolics and flavonoids.
Therefore, more may be available for absorption even if total content drops.
Steamed red cabbage anthocyanins are absorbed and metabolized in humans.
Practical takeaway:
Raw maximizes vitamin C and myrosinase.
Brief steaming retains more of the heat-sensitive compounds than boiling while improving extractability.
If you boil or braise, keep the liquid, much of the “loss” is just leaching.
Cooked red cabbage is still nutritious.
Raw + lightly steamed gives complementary benefits.
How do you usually prepare yours?

Circulating vitamin D metabolites are distinctly associated with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality: a prospective study
✅️ Higher 25(OH)D3 levels were associated w/lower risks of all-cause & CVD mortality, whereas 25(OH)D2 showed no significant associations w/mortality.
Highlights:
▶️ Serum 25(OH)D₃ was associated with lower risk of all-cause & CVD mortality.
▶️ A nonlinear association was observed between 3‑epi-25(OH)D3 & mortality.
▶️ Serum 25(OH)D₂ was not significantly associated w/mortality.
▶️ Alkaline phosphatase & albumin may mediate 25(OH)D₃-mortality associations.

@RicardoMTorr@_atanas_ I believe all aging, chronic GI or cancer patients should be tested for Vit D levels. It’s important and deficiency is sooooo common.

Gut Bacteria Metabolite Reduces Arterial Plaque Burden by 50%
▶️ Researchers identified pentadecanoic acid, a gut-bacteria-produced metabolite, that lowered LDL cholesterol & limited arterial plaque buildup in mice.
Key Points:
▶️ Pentadecanoic acid (PA), a metabolite produced by Bacteroides uniformis, reduced arterial plaque buildup by about 50% in mice, yet the study did not demonstrate reversal of existing plaques.
▶️ PA inhibited HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol production, and promoted the liver’s clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.
▶️ People with abnormal blood fat (lipid) levels had lower PA levels than healthy controls, but whether PA supplementation can prevent or reduce atherosclerotic plaques in humans remains unclear.

lactate can activate the HIF-1α pathway in microglia to enhance pro-inflammatory cytokine release, while IL-1β can inhibit neuronal PGC-1α expression to impair mitochondrial biogenesis, forming a potential link between peripheral immune metabolic reprogramming and central neuroinflammation and energy deficiency.

Bir testin hastalık bulması, hayat kurtardığını kanıtlamaz!
