How much did it cost to catapult @NASAPersevere across the Solar System and lower it by sky crane onto the surface of Mars to look for signs of life?
We crunched the numbers. And it turns out that Mars rovers are a bargain… https://t.co/K0PN7cyawe
Congratulations to @esa and @NASA for the successful launch of the @NASAWebb telescope!
If you’re wondering how much this incredible feat of science and engineering cost, @statto has just the infographic for you! #JWST#JamesWebbSpaceTelescope#JamesWebb https://t.co/84jbVcdhgB
It’s Christmas day! Even more excitingly, it’s the day that the @NASAWebb telescope takes to the skies!
But how much did it cost? I made a festive infographic to put it into context.

Is science saved? Were we at @ScienceIsVital right to hang up our lab coats and placards?
You’ll be unsurprised to know, it’s a bit more complicated than that…

Depressing to see that science continues to be a political football… Now the Government promises to make us a ‘science superpower’, but the impact of its short-sighted decisions in other areas impact upon our research funding. https://t.co/XCFboUPqxj
How much did it cost to land @NASAPersevere on the surface of Mars?
About the same as @Avengers Endgame grossed in cinemas…and 0.4% of the *annual* US military budget.

@exploreplanets You might like this infographic we just made! Thanks for putting together such excellent and accessible numbers! https://t.co/AT7fRKuUjd

Cancer Research UK is being forced to cut £150m in research and 500 staff because coronavirus has hit the charity’s income hard.
The Government is committed to doubling research funding. Bailing out CRUK and other medical charities would be a great start. https://t.co/trBfdduuSa
Coronavirus: what the hell do we do now?!
I think the media coverage of covid is too focussed on the day-to-day and not enough in what comes next. So I made a video to try to work it out.
Please share! If everyone who watches it sends it to 2–4 friends… https://t.co/ZCZAMcfWxe
Great thread about how science funding fails in times of crisis. People working on other stuff have time to apply for new covid grants. Actual coronavirus experts are so run off their feet they’ve not got time to write an application. https://t.co/rrjdVnlLBR
This is peanuts—less than $10 per person for the billion or so of us living in the high-income countries. It’s an investment that would pay itself back many, many, many times over.
Governments, businesses, billionaires—get on it!
#coronavirus#COVIDー19
$2bn is less than £30 per person in the UK, $6 per American, and $1.60 per inhabitant of the ‘high-income countries’—the richest billion or so people in the world. A #coronavirus vaccine would have economic benefits that far outstrip this tiny investment.
We need to step up!
We need $2bn to carry on work developing #coronavirus vaccines. But no-one’s giving @CEPIvaccines the cash. Yet governments have already committed to spend over 1000× this much on #COVIDー19 economic bailouts.

.@CEPIvaccines desperately needs more funding to develop a #coronavirus vaccine. They’re asking for $2bn—less than £30 per person in the UK, and about $6 per American.

A #coronavirus vaccine needs someone to stump up $2bn for testing. That’s less than 0.1% the amount governments have already spent on bailouts. @CEPIvaccines will run out of money in a week.
Here’s an infographic from @scienceogram.

For any followers Down Under, did you know that there’s a growing Australian Scienceogram?
Check out @SarahScience1’s first investigation, uncovering how the Australian Government inflates its internal R&D stats: https://t.co/6g0xuhJgqF
We've analysed the Australian Government's Science, Research and Innovation Tables, and the result is startling. $9.6 bn for R&D in 2018/2019? Less than $7 bn, according to the OECD definition of R&D.
