When children’s interests are subverted to serve the political and ideological agendas of those wearing the mantle of children’s rights advocates, it becomes imperative to defend parents’ rights to raise their children according to their own and wider society’s beliefs and values.

[Scottish Union for Education (SUE) @ScotUnionEd]

When do children’s rights become a means of undermining parental authority?

In Why Transgender Ideology Matters, Jenny Cunningham examines how the language of rights is used to advance transgender ideology in Scottish schools, shifting authority from parents to the state.

Reading provides access to humanity’s accumulated intellectual inheritance. Books allow individuals to enter into dialogue with people who lived centuries ago and in societies radically different from our own. Through reading we encounter ideas that challenge assumptions, expand horizons and deepen understanding

Scotland faces a reading crisis. But the problem goes beyond literacy standards.

@StuartWaiton and @pennyruthlewis argue for a return to explicit teaching, educational authority and the transmission of knowledge and culture.

Scotland’s educational system has lost itself somewhere in the bonnie hills and is sitting there dying from hypothermia and starvation. Dr Fotini Hamplova

A society can absorb many political mistakes. It can recover from poor economic decisions. But a generation of children denied the opportunity to acquire strong literacy, numeracy and intellectual confidence pays a price that can last a lifetime. @StuartWaiton

Scotland's declining educational performance demands more than another round of reforms.

Lindsay Paterson's latest book raises a fundamental question: has Curriculum for Excellence weakened the place of knowledge in our schools?

Can standards recover without restoring it?

[Scottish Union for Education (SUE) @ScotUnionEd]

Scottish education can be transformed for the better.

This week's SUE newsletter explores how a renewed focus on knowledge, high standards and effective teaching can help our schools flourish.

Schools should educate, not indoctrinate. They should encourage disciplined thought, not impose political orthodoxies.

Our new booklet, Why Transgender Ideology Matters, examines government overreach, parental authority and the politicisation of Scottish education.

[Don't Divide Us @DontDivideUsNow]

Impartiality in education is vital yet so misunderstood sometimes wilfully, and sometimes because of the influence of Critical Race Theory & Identity politics which work to disavow antisemitism as a new form of racism. But schools should be treating antisemitism as a severe breach of a vital ethical code: treat all in school with curtesy and politeness (even if you don't like or respect what they think). A question of moral courage and practical consistency on part of the adults rather than more training: https://t.co/E6qkIOpn0x. . fyi @ScotUnionEd @ProtectTeach

[Don't Divide Us @DontDivideUsNow]

Right from the start DDU has stressed the need for far greater concern and enforcment of Sections 406 & 407 of the Education Act. There are still too many schools where leaders/staff think hitching 'being kind' to using partisan political content (from open borders to trans ideology) is ok - it really isn't. This is a good start, but teacher training needs radical overhaul. @ScotUnionEd @ProtectTeach https://t.co/uvSD35CAn9

Not every instance of poor behaviour is a mental health issue. When schools replace clear expectations and consequences with therapeutic language, they risk undermining teacher authority.

[Scottish Union for Education (SUE) @ScotUnionEd]

Effective behaviour policies in every school would be a better start.

Misogyny has no place in Scotland.

A new £1 million Respect Fund will give every school in Scotland resources to challenge sexism, educate young people and promote equality.

Disruptive behaviour is undermining learning across our schools. Yet education policymakers rarely question whether child-centred approaches have weakened teacher authority.
