We know that the air we breathe at work, at school (in the cockpit!) influences our cognitive performance, so these results about how the air in our homes influences cognitive function during remote work shouldn't be too surprising...

Air #filtration is key for promoting #indoorairquality during #wildfire events, but wildfire smoke can degrade the effectiveness of many air filters.
Our new blog outlines these filtration considerations and steps to take to help protect your #health:

**replace electrostatic filters after wildfire smoke**
--> some filters rely on electrostatic charge to achieve reported filtration levels
--> study: smoke particles can reduce performance of these filters 95% b/c of the charge they carry
A new postdoctoral scholar job opening at EPFL! I'm looking for a bright-minded and team-oriented person passionate for indoor air quality research. If you know one or if you are the one, please spread the word/apply!

In this new op-ed in @washingtonpost, @j_g_allen and I discussed risks of #COVID19 transmission in several scenarios we might face during having dinner with an asymptomatic friend.
#ASIMI tool was used to estimate the risks (caveats are applied).

Aerosols are driving Covid-19 transmission. The evidence is incontrovertible.
We found:
--> almost 90% of within-room transmission by aerosol
--> about 40% due to 'long range' aerosol (within-room, beyond 6 feet)
Ventilation/Filtration matter. A lot.

SCHOOLS. Want to know if classroom is getting sufficient outdoor air ventilation? You can use a CO2 monitor and our new tool
1. Select ventilation target
2. Enter size of classroom
3. Enter # of students/teachers
Tool gives 'should not exceed' CO2 level

1- We detected Diacetyl and methylglyoxal in all samples in our recent #ecig paper
2- It is shown methylglyoxal is even more toxic than diacetyl
It is an URGENT public health concern

From 2013: HVAC filtration for controlling infectious airborne disease transmission in indoor environments by @stephensbrent@parhamazimi_87. A highlight: "HVAC filtration appears more cost effective than outdoor air ventilation." https://t.co/h0YeY7Y2UB
As we reckon with record poor air quality in Portland and across the west, some thoughts as my partner and I try to shore up the indoor air quality in our home, especially aiming to reduce exposure in our home for our 18 month old.
We are delighted to have Sandra Dedesko (@sdedesko) join us as a new PhD candidate @HarvardChanSPH!
Sandra worked w/, and was highly recommended by, outstanding building scientist @IAQinGWN, so we are feeling quite lucky.
Welcome to the Harvard #HealthyBuildings team, Sandra!
Re-thinking the Potential for Airborne Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 https://t.co/HQcCxGH8gw, a short communication that @j_g_allen and I wrote about six weeks ago, now updated. The evidence for #airborne transmission continues to mount.
Is COVID spread is through the air? I wrote this piece summarizing why we think this is the case, what to do about it: “Coronavirus drifts through the air in microscopic droplets – here’s the science of infectious aerosols” published on The Conversation. https://t.co/mVjhW3TIuT
