It is not hyperbolic to say this proposed rule could be the nail in the coffin for American science, at least for awhile. This is Russel Vought’s plan to control what science gets funded and what does not.
A statement from the family of Alex Pretti, obtained by CNN:
"We are heartbroken but also very angry.
Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman.
The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed.
Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."
To be clear about what this depicts: An immigration officer threw a woman onto the ground. Alex Pretti, a registered nurse on scene as a legal observer, is filming and goes to help the woman up. He is then pepper sprayed and thrown to the ground for no discernible reason. Many officer surround and assault him; one removes his firearm, which police say appears to have been legally registered. They then execute him with a hail of bullets.
They are, objectively speaking, both cowards and criminals, while Pretti is what we teach people an American ought to be.
A free press isn’t free if stories get shelved just because the powerful won’t talk. CBS pulling the CECOT story on Venezuelan deportees sent to El Salvador’s brutal prison erodes trust. We are losing trust that government and media serve us, not the elite.
losing it over jonathan frakes pronouncing the show name wrong and also losing it over the knowledge that brent spiner wants to be a guest star in future seasons
I would not be where I am today without having walked the road that she paved. Rest in peace, Dr. Goodall.💚

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision has been followed by significant price hikes and layoffs, harming both gamers and developers.
As we’ve seen across sectors, increasing market consolidation and increasing prices often go hand-in-hand.
As dominant firms become too-big-to-care, they can make things worse for their customers without having to worry about the consequences.
A big @MSNBC scoop >>>> Trump border czar Tom Homan was under criminal investigation for potential bribery and claims he would steer fed contracts in new administration. Undercover @FBI agents recorded him accepting $50k in cash. Trump @TheJusticeDept shuttered the probe

But, for my purposes, I'm going to continue to tell people the truth, if for no other reason than the truth is easier to remember.
The Supreme Court handed the POTUS "absolute immunity" for an unknowable sphere of "official acts," thus changing the rules of law and democracy.
I’m shocked—shocked!—to see a big tax prep company sweating the competition from a free filing option, after so many years of wringing profits out of taxpayers.
Congressman Joaquin Castro is calling for a federal investigation into WB for its handling of ‘COYOTE VS ACME.’
“The tactic of scrapping films for tax breaks is predatory and anti-competitive. It’s like burning down a building for the insurance money.”

people saying ashton/taliesin has "main character syndrome" is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. he's done nothing to progress his backstory this entire time up until the shattered teeth, and immediately it was "this has to go to someone else". +
this morning, 61 people are being arraigned in a RICO case against Cop City activists. tomorrow is Election Day and the original date Atlanta would have voted on Cop City if the city hadn’t fought the referendum in court. state repression on full display
