BREAKING: 🚨 Massive attack drains nearly 600 $BTC from ~500 Bitcoin wallets.
An attacker exploited a Coldcard Mk3 seed generation flaw to steal 594 $BTC (~$38M) in a 25-minute attack.
The bug made some Mk3 recovery phrases predictable due to weak entropy.

@Vladcostea @stutxo The only person who I knew who wasn't bought by Coldcard was Vlad. They even paid me and send free products for years lol.
And I did some of my own investigation into the matter and it happened that majority of what @Vladcostea said was true, and that nvk straight lies.

This incident is a good reminder of the importance of checking your Bitcoin security.
Always imagine what you hold is worth 10x more.
Use multisig for large holdings, with three different hardware wallets from seperate manufacturers.
I use Coldcard, Trezor, and Jade.
Use a passphrase.
Make steel backups.
Test everything.

This affects the Coldcard Mk3 with firmware versions 4.0.1 and above, especially single-signature wallets without a passphrase are in danger.
It appears that weak randomisation was used when generating the Bitcoin seed phrase.
Ways to save your Bitcoin from the Coldcard so that you can protect yourself against such an attack:
- Transfer your Bitcoin to another hardware wallet
- Transfer your Bitcoin to a passphrase wallet, if one is available
- Transfer your Bitcoin to a multi-signature wallet
- Transfer your Bitcoin to a seed phrase that you have generated yourself.
- A trusted exchange or a hot wallet can also serve as a temporary solution
Please do not act too hastily; mistakes should be avoided.
