While Sun was transiting to Makar Rashi on Makar Shankranthi, Tejaveera Bharateeyaru day started with meeting Senior Volunteers of Varthur Lake who had dedicated years together to research, revive and stop pollution in the #varthur lake. Humbled to meet them, a new chapter has started .

Please understand urbanisation is not having high rise buildings, tech parks and pubs. Unless the Vaayu, Bhoomi and Jal is taken care and protected, your existence itself will become a curse to the planet and eventually which affects you. On this front @KannadaRepublic has covered the varthur lake issue.
#IISC professor Ramachandra and team has put lot of efforts to identify what happens when industry wastes and sewage is let out into the lakes.
Have attached small image on how vegetables contain heavy metals grown on the banks of polluted water bodies. This research paper is from #IISC professor. Please wake up.... One of the reason for neurological diseases are because of heavy metals.

On account of 77th Republic day , group of #TaxPayers #IT employees crowdfunded for a tractor, removed road side silt from highest tax paying constituency #Mahadevapura , Silicon city aka Dhool city.

If anyone have contacts with sand mafia please send them overnight to Gunjur-Balegere-Varthur-Panathur area which is 2km away from #ORR . In 50 metre they will easily get 5 tons of silt.

Sewage overflows due to absence of Sorahunse STP, Varthur STP, plastic and garbage everywhere. There is no enough SWML vehicles to collect garbage from all the lanes.

Clean and dust free roads continue to be a challenge even after the GBA & Corporations were formed

The few mechanised sweepers which were deployed in few arterial roads have been stopped by Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) with no plans to procure or contract new machines.

Even though, BSWML is in operation for over a year, there is no visible improvement/reduction in the Garbage dumping spot across the city

In Yemalur Main Road, the residents of joined with the administration & took up the cleaning of the road & footpath. Corporation H&S officials and Pourakarmikas joined together & supported the residents

The same issue faced at Balagere Main road was tackled differently with media being called & officers accused of apathy. Residents took to the streets & media covered the cleaning work

What approach works?

As Task force volunteers, we will continue to work on systemic resolution of issues faced in Mahadevapura

Priorities are
1. 12-15 Mechanised Sweeping machines are urgently needed in Mahadevapura Zone
2. ⁠Pourakarmika’s & Auto Tippers need to be increased as per the current demographics of the Zone. Current allocation still follows the 2015-16 data
3. ⁠Construction & Demolition waste removal needs to be expedited
4. ⁠Technology enablement to track & monitor the Garbage Collection
5. ⁠Strict enforcement & increase in Marshals to monitor littering & garbage dumping
