Today, as the Bahá’í community commemorates 75 years since the introduction of the Bahá’í Faith in Uganda, we pause with grateful hearts.

What began in 1951 with a handful of devoted souls has, through the grace of God and the efforts of many generations, become a collective journey of learning, service, and fellowship. We remember those who first responded to the call to serve this land and all who, over the decades, have contributed in ways both visible and unseen.

This anniversary is not only an occasion to look back. It is an opportunity to reflect on what we have learned together and how we may continue to contribute to the well-being of our communities.

May gratitude inspire renewed dedication to the service of humanity.

This week the Bahá’i Community of Uganda was honored to host Rev. Canon Aaron Mwesigye, the Director, and staff of the Directorate of Ethics & Integrity @ethicsug, Religious Affairs, Office of the President at the Information Centre on the Bahá’i Temple grounds.

During the meeting, a brief introduction of the Bahá’i Faith and its history in Uganda was shared. The Director of Religious affairs shared the functions and role of the directorate in building unity among the various religious entities and streamlining their registration. They explored shared values, faith partnerships, and national development.

The Director reflected on his longstanding relationship with the Bahá'í community and exchanged publications with the National Spiritual Assembly and the Bahá'í Library, strengthening a spirit of collaboration. The meeting was attended by the General Secretary to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahai’s of Uganda and representatives from Bahá’i institutions and agencies.

On the first day of Ridván, Bahá’í communities also elect their Local Spiritual Assemblies —a nine-member body that guides community life at the local level. Elections are held by secret ballot, with no campaigns, no nominations, and no candidates. Just prayerful reflection on who is best suited to serve.

Beginning today, Bahá’ís around the world will be celebrating Ridván — a 12-day festival marking one of the most significant moments in Bahá’í history.

In 1863, in a garden in Baghdad, Bahá’u’lláh — the founder of the Bahá’í Faith — declared His mission as the Messenger of God for this age. That garden was called Ridván, meaning Paradise in Arabic.

"How can the law travel with a person, ensuring the equal application of protections across country borders?"

The pursuit of a world where every individual is treated with innate dignity is a powerful driver of social progress, yet this vision is currently obstructed by deep-seated systemic injustices.

A side event at #CSW70, co-organised by the National Association of Women’s Organizations in Uganda (@NAWOUga) and Bahá’í International Community Addis Ababa Office, in collaboration with other partners, provided the space to think deeply about these systemic injustices and what solutions can be found to end human trafficking.

We were honored to co-host this event with the Government of Uganda, which is home to a Bahá'í community dedicated to working with people of all backgrounds to foster unity and a desire for life-long service to the communtiy.

Due to the transnational nature of the challenge of human trafficking, cross-institutional collaboration needs to be at the heart of efforts to dismantle these networks. At the event, an important question arose: how can frameworks of collaborative governance be modeled and strengthened to combat the practice of trafficking? The importance of having institutions with a sense of responsibility for all women and girls that cross their borders was highlighted.

This challenge has to be tackled with both global strategies to tackle trafficking profit chains and community-led prevention, seeing this as a problem faced by the whole of humanity, not simply by individuals and nations in isolation.
