The usual “DPP correspondence” move: take information and evidence out of circulation — for a while, or for good — so that perhaps a favoured story holds.

Used in 2015 and after to shield Anglo executives and board members while criminal trials loomed and the Banking Inquiry fizzled out.

Liquidity reports were never put in front of experts. Experts were pushed to brief Joint Committee members without access to much of the underlying evidence - that had been compelled & without which the Inquiry did not seem to have a purpose, other than to function as a whitewash, in keeping with Ireland’s “patterns of conduct”.

Even Senan Allen said that this was crazy - yet I was deemed “wholly unreliable”.

Corruption and wrongdoing are intolerable in any institution — especially one entrusted with protecting the public.

The allegations raised by Garda whistleblowers on RTÉ Investigates tonight are deeply concerning. Those who speak up about wrongdoing must be protected, not silenced, sidelined or punished.

Accountability, transparency and the rule of law must apply to everyone. Whistleblowers deserve protection, and allegations of wrongdoing deserve proper, independent investigation. Gardaí deserve safe equipment and administrative authorities must be held accountable for any and all mistakes relating to this matter. This is about the working conditions of the people who keep our streets and communities safe. Shocking and disturbing account of wrongdoing from Garda whistleblowers tonight.

They say the system for reporting and investigating wrongdoing was fatally undermined at the highest level of An Garda Síochána, and that Gardaí who spoke up were targeted and penalised.

Two who spoke out were responsible for protecting whistleblowers and yet they were forced to become whistleblowers themselves.

After the disgusting treatment of Maurice McCabe, we were promised things would change.

That promise has been broken.

Serious questions of Government and an Garda Síochána senior ranks must be answered.
