I’ve heard from multiple sources that #TikTok has 150 million users in the us. But our total population is 330 million so this doesn’t seem likely. What is considered a “user”? Is it possible that most of these are bots or duplicate accounts?

Historically, #AI models are discovered by trial and error. But wouldn't be great if we could mathematically derive the best possible model? That is precisely what we are attempting to do. Please check it out and lmk what you think!

There’s a frequent perception among recent entrants to drug discovery world that if we could just find drug candidates faster, this will be a useful accelerant to the overall process. The issue is: this thinking is mostly (but not entirely) incorrect. 🧵 1/
@Willyintheworld Yeah I guess that part I’m unfamiliar with. For countries who can’t afford meds it makes sense to make them cheaper, but for other countries that is a fair point
@Willyintheworld I don’t think the price of drugs in the US can go down without some significant change somewhere else, like using tax dollars for clinical trials, or extending patent lifetimes.
@Willyintheworld From what I am learning there are three main factors:
1) the cost to bring a new drug to market is astronomical, usually over $1B
2) the success rate for new drugs to pass clinical trials is very low
3) clinical trials are very long and cut into the patent protection period

Have you ever spent more time automating something that it takes to do the task manually for an entire year? I've been guilty of that more than couple times.
@Willyintheworld Also from what I hear, The number of Chinese applications to U S universities is dropping, partly due to the fact that Chinese universities are much more competitive nowadays. I would be very bullish, but I don’t understand enough about the other factors that go into an economy
@Willyintheworld Actually a lot of machine learning research from China is really solid. I know from experience because I got scooped on a project by a lab from China.
A thing that is causing huge pain at many tech companies in the US - with little talk about it:
An IRS tax code change in Section 174. This change eliminates the ability for businesses to deduct R&D as an expense.
Hear of lots of layoffs directly because of this, as a start.
Interesting article. Evidently a lot of aid for Ukraine stays in the US. At least about a quarter of the aid involves weapons and training with no monetary transfer at all.
