Let's talk about native apps that should be Progressive Web Apps! Curated by @firt If you were mentioned: there is a cure, contact your Web Professional now
The @McDonalds app. Only ever used to make an order. As it’s very transactional, there’s no need for it to be taking up space on my phone. @ShouldBePWA
A city government paid $50K for a one-year license of an app for police agents that uses speech synthesis and voice recognition for "inclusive communication."
I created a PWA with the same behavior in less than 2 hours. I did a video about it (in Spanish) https://t.co/AlxF3o3uHY
Saw this at the
@FlyingTigerUK store in Oxford Street. Requiring the user to install an app can add friction to your user's journey. This app by @MishiPayApp is a PWA and can be installed, but doesn't require to. Is "No app install required" the new "There's an app for that"?
Every banking app.
Every airline app.
Every public transit/parking app.
Every ride-sharing/hailing app.
Every fast food/food delivery app.
Can just as easily be a PWA as a native app.
If you'd rather build 3 or 4 native apps... I'm not gonna tell you how to spend your money.
The government of Colombia 🇨🇴created CoronApp to support citizens and visitors on the COD-19 outbreak. It's a native app for Android. It's not accessible or usable; no need for native
It can save lives but many million citizens can't use it
It should be a PWA.
It must be a PWA.
Remember: if you have a great web app, you really close to being a PWA. It’s probably a good idea to walk those extra steps! Performance, offline access and installability will provide good UX for your users.
Current state of the Progressive Web App platform (PWA): compatibility on mobile and desktop, abilities, install ability, App Store support, tools and more. #repost https://t.co/f8AjEf6NKC
The official app for @CopaAmerica is native: 128MB on iOS, 49MB on Android
—Competition lasts only 4 weeks
—Only sports info coming from web services
—No native features, but many permissions granted that may violate user's privacy
—Insecure webview for ecommerce
It @ShouldBePWA
If you take a @Ryanair flight and want to see the drinks and food menu, you can download a +100MB app from stores. No inflight WiFi is available and trying cellular connections inside the plane can be a problem. It @ShouldBePWA!
BTW, receipts are available on the Web 🙄
Our first “victim” is the New York City’s Pennsylvania Train Station app by @amtrak
−Nobody can find it today by its name “FindYourWay” 🤨
−600K daily passengers but less than 3% downloaded the app
−50MB on iOS, 21MB on Android - bad reviews (2.5 stars)
−Too many permissions
Hello World!
Let's mention services and apps that are currently only at app stores forcing users to use memory space and waste data in background updates because they are developed as native apps but could have much better user experience if they were PWAs
