California’s Property Seizure Act - called The Billionaire Tax” to fool voters is now on the ballot. @HooverInst has a short 4min video breaking it down.

You should vote for this if you are comfortable handing over 5%, in cash, of all your tangible and intangible property every year. You should vote no if you don’t want to do that.
If it passes, the remaining Billionaires will sue. This will take a decade to meander through the courts and will find its way to the Supreme Court where the odds it survives are low.
But in that intervening decade, far fewer business builders will want to bet on California and will focus on building in other states.
This will drive a large loss of revenue that will make California’s budget hole even worse. The only solution there is more borrowing and higher taxes on EVERYONE including those that voted NO. This will particularly impact the middle class who are Californias largest revenue source.
The only path out of an avoidable budget spiral is a hard landing and structural reset. Sadly, a hard landing will mean a near-miss with California bankruptcy and, more punitively, a reset/retrade of state pensions with California lenders to not come collect.
If you aren’t sure or don’t believe me, vote YES and bookmark this post. A decade from now you can tell me I was wrong or give me the opportunity to lord over your stupidity, jealousy and gullibility for voting YES when I am proven right.
Three things:
1. “It’s time for an economic reset” is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever heard an American politician say. If you don’t get what those words portend, you don’t understand 20th century history.
2. Among Democrats, Newsom is considered a moderate, not a progressive. His endorsement of a wealth tax makes it an official part of the Democratic Party platform for moderates and progressives alike; the policy is now table stakes for any Democrat seeking office at any level and in any region. We are no longer going to be able to escape this by simply claiming it’s the fringe left advocating for it.
3. Notice that Newsom calls it a “billionaires tax” but references the wealth of the top 10%. If you think a tax such as this would be limited to billionaires, you are delusional (remember that the income tax originally applied to less than 1% of earners). Billionaires have an entire industry of wealth managers, lawyers, and tax advisors helping them shelter assets. When this “billionaires tax” fails to collect even a small percentage of what Democrats promise it will, they will quickly expand it to apply to anyone with even $5M of assets (which is a top 2% net worth). Ordinary people far below the level of the ultra-wealthy—main street small business owners, mom-and-pop real estate investors, farmers, anyone with a decent-size nest egg in their IRA or 401k account—will quickly feel the pain as well.
Pay attention. This is serious, it’s not going away, and it’s going to come for all of us, billionaire or not.
@GavinNewsom Gavin Newsom has no idea what to campaign on for President. He’s tried yelling, pretending to want unity, the orange man bad thing, and now he sees Mamdani and Khanna and is trying their con. It’s pretty pathetic to watch.
Of course, waiting for Tesla to review and comment on the telemetry before posting "journalistic" garbage is a bridge too far for BI... and many other trash rags for that matter.
@elonmusk@kylaschwaberow Yup. In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area. They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.
Hi, everybody.
I’m pleased to let you know that we’re going to release a lecture a week from my extensive tour archive, beginning this Sunday and then repeating every Sunday after that.
This allows me to do something interesting and useful while I’m otherwise incapacitated. My health is such at the moment that I can’t really return to podcasting or public lecturing. But we recorded these with the express intention of preparing them for release, and we’ve all determined that this is a very good time to do that.
So that’s what’s going to happen.
I hope you find them useful and compelling. They’ll be particularly attractive to those of you who liked my early YouTube work that was very lecture focused. It’s a return to my roots, I suppose, in some ways. And I’m as happy as I can be under the current circumstances, given my ill health, to be participating in this process and to have these lectures prepared for release.
Thanks a lot for your continued attention and support.

@matthew_a_bell@FT I'm trying to decide if people taking this seriously is a sign of endemic stupidity on their part or the increasing plausibility of the absurd. Either way, endemic stupidity is involved somehow.
The left is not furious over @elonmusk’s wealth.
They are furious that he is able to accomplish so much with money voluntarily given, while leftist politicians take it by force and make things worse.
Elon is hated because he is evidence of their incompetence and corruption.
