King Harald V maintained a close relationship with Norway's Jewish community. He made history by being the first Norwegian monarch to visit a synagogue, and on the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks in 2024, he personally visited the Oslo synagogue to stand in solidarity with Norwegian Jews against rising hatred.

Han har besøkt Cold Response og en rekke andre øvelser mange ganger, deltatt på frigjørings- og veterandagen til det siste, deltatt på minneseremonier, og hadde utallige besøk til våre leire og baser.  

Kongen var general i Hæren, general i Luftforsvaret og admiral i Sjøforsvaret, og gikk selv på Krigsskolen – hvor han ble uteksaminert i 1959.

Som landets øverste befalingsmann, fulgte Kong Harald opp Forsvaret gjennom hele året, og mottok både forsvarssjefen, sjef Forsvarets operative hovedkvarter og sjefene for de ulike grenene i faste audienser for å holde seg orientert om situasjonen til enhver tid.

🇳🇴King Harald V of Norway has died at the age of 89.

The Norwegian King, who was born in 1937, was just three years old when German troops invaded Norway forcing his family to flee to neighboring Sweden.

They later sought refuge in the U.S during the Nazi occupation of Norway.

On June 7, 1945, following Germany’s surrender, Harald, then aged 8, returned to Norway with the rest of the royal family and was welcomed by thousands of people on the streets of the capital, Oslo.

He ascended the throne in 1991 and was Europe’s oldest monarch.
