This is the lowest level of professionalism, ethics and human decency.
In today’s MCC public meeting, Councillor Gaalib appears to have received a text, most probably from Mayor Azim, instructing him to secretly switch off Councillor Samah’s mic while he was looking away, simply because they couldn’t tolerate his remarks criticizing the incompetence of their government.
Samah continued speaking, unaware that his mic had been cut off, until someone from the MCC broadcasting control room alerted him. What followed was even more disgraceful. MDP councillors mocked and laughed at their colleague while shamelessly blaming Samah for switching off the mic by himself. Being the moderator of the council meeting Mayor Azim did the same, despite apparently knowing that Gaalib had switched off the mic.
Such blatant disrespect has no place in the MCC. The LGA must investigate this gross ethical misconduct and suspend Gaalib under the law to protect the dignity of the Council and the sanctity of the Decentralisation Act.
No human deserves to be treated this way, least of all by their own colleagues. Is this really the standard of conduct the public should expect from a party and the running mate of a potential presidential candidate seeking to win in 2028?
I strongly condemn the attempted Houthi drone attack targeting the Holy City of Makkah. Any act that threatens the safety and sanctity of Islam’s holiest city is completely unacceptable and deeply offensive to the entire Muslim Ummah.
The Maldives stands in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commends the swift response of the Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces in safeguarding the Holy City, its pilgrims and residents.
We call for an immediate cessation of such attacks and urge all concerned to avoid further escalation and commit to the path of peace and dialogue.
BREAKING: The President of the Religious of the Two Holy Mosques Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman As Sudais has strongly condemned the hostile attacks by the terrorist Houthi Militia on the Holy Sites in Makkah Al Mukarramah
To every Muslim who may have forgotten:
The #Houthis targeted Makkah in 2016, and repeated the act in 2017.
Today, they have once again committed the same reckless act against the holiest city in Islam.
Makkah is not a political card. It is the Qiblah of Muslims, the birthplace of the final message, and a sacred city for more than two billion Muslims around the world.
And to those who choose silence: when Makkah is threatened, silence is not neutrality. It is a failure to stand up for what should unite every Muslim.
Saudi Arabia will defend its land and its people, and it will protect the holy sites entrusted to its care. It will not stand by while anyone threatens Makkah or the security of the Kingdom.
Makkah is a red line. Some things are bigger than politics, and the sanctity of Islam is one of them.

In May 2026, MT KG 1 and AL 1 were seized after authorities found that they had entered Maldivian waters without authorization. Reports at the time said they had remained anchored near Malé for about a week before being detected. Last night, the SAME two vessels drifted towards the #Maldives-#China Friendship Bridge.
Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib calls it a “near miss” and says there is no structural damage to the bridge, only surface scratches. He also warns that an out-of-control vessel near Malé could threaten both bridges, VIA and other critical infrastructure.
If vessels in the custody of a state authority can drift uncontrolled towards a bridge, this is not simply a maritime accident. It raises serious questions about how that custody was managed and whether adequate safeguards were in place. @CustomsMv@ImmigrationMV@MoDmv@MNDF_Official@PoliceMv@MIHUDmv@HomeMinistrymv
@SneakyCapz@PoliceMv 1. Yes. Hawks will fix the solar panels for sure.
2. What investigation? No need. They will pay enough money and there will be no investigation at all.
Just received this from an MTCC Male' Taxi customer.
The driver (taxi number T-5031) who picked her up was Hassan Kurusee (@HKurusee).
When did Hassan Kurusee join the gov / MTCC taxi service? @MTCCPlc
I agree, Sikka.
@ShumbaGong was illegally kidnapped and smuggled out of Lanka into Maldives. @thayyib’s SIM was cloned by forcing @Dhiraagu. @Raajje_tv was hit with a total of 3.7 million MVR in fines. Then there was the largest corruption case, MMPRC, along with jailing of Anni, Maumoon, Qasim, Imran, Nazim, Faris, Sinan, Ilham, Mahloof and many others. We also saw the mass arbitrary arrest of 141 people in 2018, the killings of Rilwan and Yamin Rasheed, the purging of the judiciary, the subversion of parliament by deploying soldiers, raids on media outlets including Maldives Independent and the cutting of ties with Iran, Qatar and the Commonwealth.
All of this happened during Yameen’s presidency and most of it with his knowledge and involvement.
Yet when it comes to corruption, it was also Yameen who initiated the investigations into these matters. More than 10 years later, he remains free cause there is still not enough evidence against him. MMPRC is the biggest case people use against him and even there we have nothing solid that sticks.
Look at the bigger picture. When people are hungry, they care less about other issues and prioritise a strong economy, an economy that works for them and that is exactly what is happening now. The things I mentioned are real. They did happen. But think carefully. In the last 15 years of our recent history, Yameen was the only leader who brought real prosperity (and hope) into people’s lives.
That is why people are returning to him.
They remember shops flourishing with high sales, vessels running at full occupancy, contractors growing and getting paid regularly and dollars being readily available.
What many people, like you, get wrong is this, for the majority of Maldivians, livelihoods come first, before media freedom, human rights, civil rights or democratic ideals. That is the reality of what is happening now. I’m not endorsing anyone, I’m just writing the reality.
I have never entered into any business arrangement, partnership, or financial deal with Fazul Rasheed or anyone as alleged . These claims are completely false, baseless, and without any evidence.
As a Muslim, I make this statement with full awareness of its seriousness: if I have ever engaged in any such business or deal with Fazul as claimed, then I am not a Muslim. I stand by my denial and challenge anyone making these allegations to produce credible evidence instead of spreading false accusations.
Why the fuck does a sex scandal get more traction in this country than a mismanaged case of suicide, the torture of prisoners, the death of a prisoner due to negligence, and the many other horrendous horrendous atrocities taken up by this government.
