Anyone who has helped a loved one navigate a serious diagnosis (or navigated one themselves) knows the feeling all too well. You leave your appointments with brochures, random iPhone notes with suggestions for referrals and lifestyle changes and the slight panic of wondering what you've missed. Patients don't always need another tool to replace their doctors, but one that helps them understand, organize and act on what their doctors say, and that's exactly what Kin is solving. Their free app records medical visits and turns them in to plain-language summaries patients can actually understand, use and share with their loved ones and any other providers they may see.
At @Maveron, we've met with dozens of teams building at the intersection of consumer health and AI. @DrParikhMBA, Amit, Kyle and the Kin team were the first ones we truly believed could align incentives between patients and providers, all while building a high-trust, accessible and honestly magical consumer experience. Huge congratulations to Arpan, Amit, Kyle and team on their launch and all that is to come!!
4 years ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. Our family has a dozen+ physicians in it and we still felt lost navigating her care. The average American doesn't stand a chance.
Today I'm so excited to announce Kin Health's $9M seed, led by @Maveron with participation from @townhallvntrs, @flexcapital, @EniacVC, The Family Fund, @pearvc, Watershed Ventures, and an incredible lineup of individuals. including 30+ physicians.
Kin is a free app that records your medical visits and turns them into plain-language summaries. Over time, it becomes a health record of what your doctor actually said, living in your pocket and owned by you.

I've been thinking a lot about longevity lately… not the peptide-injecting, supplement-stacking version, but what it looks like when it reaches the rest of us.
The first wave of companies (@prenuvo, @function, @GrailBio) did something important: they proved consumers will pay for preventive care. But that customer is still largely a highly activated early adopter. McKinsey puts that group at just 25% of the market. The other 75% want to age well too, they're just not building a parallel health system outside their doctor to do it.
I think that the next wave of longevity won't win by going deeper on biohackers, but by solving for adherence over diagnosis, earning provider trust instead of bypassing it, and treating brand as infrastructure in a category where consumers are being asked to hand over their most personal data.

1/ At @Maveron, we're looking to invest in a returns retailer that builds its own brand — one that attracts & retains customers w/o relying on the independent brands it carries. Read more on our POV below 👇🏾
5/ As investors in REBEL, which is redefining returns for baby gear and home goods, we know it’s possible to build and scale a returns retailer. The same thesis applies across categories — soft goods, consumer electronics, and more.

25 Grand Problem & Opportunity Areas across Retail & eCommerce
One of the best parts of focusing on specific sectors for investing is that we can attempt to proactively identify some of the top shifts and opportunity areas where startups can capitalize.
In an effort to shed a light on some of these, I just published the results of a ‘breadth-first search’ in the Retail (& eCommerce) space – looking at the top areas where investors and industry insiders would like to see innovation across the sector.
This draws on the collective wisdom of over a dozen top investors and operators active in the space. I'm excited to share this first post in a new series that will look at opportunities across markets.
