@AlexEdelman My grandmother told me that her family was Jewish, but they had to change the spelling of their last name to avoid harassment. I wore that fact with pride growing up. Years later I found out that they weren't Jewish at all -- they just didn't want anyone thinking they were.
@PNWPragmatist I don't see a big downside to lying -- Pratt's core fanbase eats it up, and if there are any Republicans who would potentially be offended by lying, then they probably decided not to vote for Paxton already.
@opsylojay1 Look, it's a great story and all, but literally no one believes that some manager of a venue agreed to wait around for your fiancée to come home from work, just so you can have a real-time "gotcha" moment.
@Emilio2763 - break into the business at age 25 because you look way younger than the 40-year-old women in the same role.
- turn 40.
- realize that there are a million 25-year-olds out there who can do the same job as you.
@macbradymuse If you work in an industry that promotes women based (largely) on their youthful appearance, then you increase the likelihood that the same women will try to make themselves look younger as they age.
@JohnJHarwood I think you're half right -- it's designed to fool those who don't know any better AND to manufacture a false-equivalence of their own corruption.
@AdamCrigler When you learn at a young age that appearance & money mean as much as performance, so then you use your money in an attempt to maintain your appearance.
@bourscheid No. She won't even be arrested. She'll resign, then become a consultant, get a gig on Fox News, and continue to sell access. Any attempts to hold her accountable will be met with cries of bias/witch hunt/corruption/etc.
@theredhombre If Christians in Texas had an honest conversation about the election, I think many would conclude that they're voting for Paxton because he reminds them of themselves, and voting for Paxton is a way to absolve themselves of their own flaws. No one wants to admit that they suck.
@elinashirazi Yawn. She'll resign, move to Fox News, cry about a witch hunt, and continue the grift unabated. There will be no investigation of those who gave her money. Literally no one will be arrested, let alone serve jail time. This is the (current) American Way. It's no risk/high reward.
@SenWhitehouse LOL @ "yet". We all know how this is going to play out: it will be swept under the rug, then as soon as Trump's power is gone, Republicans will just switch back to the old playbook ("taxes and gas prices are too high!"). There will be zero attempt to curb corruption.
@AtheistPhoenix In Luke 19, Jesus tells a story in which a nobleman says "bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me". It's not a direct command to kill nonbelievers, but it treats the concept with indifference, as if it's accepted canon.
@fluffygirlpaws The police investigation stated that the killer "spoke about his life growing up as a Christian and his internal struggle with his own sexuality".
