In the middle of a family’s worst heartbreak, one decision gave three other families a reason to hope.

Bilash Tanti Sharma, lovingly known as Shivani, from Madhya Pradesh’s Khapa Khurd village, was declared brain-dead after a road accident. While her family was grappling with an unimaginable loss, they chose to donate her organs to AIIMS Bhopal, helping save three lives.

There is something profoundly moving about a decision like this. A family facing the pain of losing someone they love chose to give other families a chance to hold on to someone they love. Their grief did not become any smaller, but their decision gave hope to people who desperately needed it.

In recognition of this extraordinary act, Madhya Pradesh Police accorded Shivani a guard of honour in her native village.

Shivani’s story leaves us with a powerful reminder: even when a life cannot be saved, the choice to donate organs can help other lives continue. And sometimes, in the deepest darkness a family can face, their decision becomes someone else’s light.

गुड़गांव कोई नहीं चाहता था। पानी तक नहीं था। KP सिंह ने उसे भारत का सबसे महंगा शहर बना दिया।

1970 का दशक, आखिरी साल। गुड़गांव दिल्ली के किनारे सूखी, पथरीली खेती की ज़मीन थी। मिट्टी खराब, पानी कम, न मेट्रो, न हाईवे। बिल्डर्स को नहीं चाहिए थी। निवेशकों को भी नहीं।

KP सिंह भी लगभग हाथ खींच चुके थे। 1975 में वे अपने ससुर की कंपनी DLF में अपना हिस्सा करीब ₹25 लाख में बेचने को तैयार थे। चेक टेबल पर रखा था। एक सलाहकार ने कहा, अभी रुकिए। उन्होंने साइन नहीं किया।

DLF ग्रेटर कैलाश और साउथ एक्सटेंशन बना चुकी थी, लेकिन 1957 के दिल्ली डेवलपमेंट एक्ट ने प्राइवेट बिल्डर्स के लिए दिल्ली बंद कर दी थी। तो सिंह वहां गए जहां कोई देख भी नहीं रहा था।

पहली दिक्कत थी कानून। प्राइवेट कंपनियां खेती की ज़मीन खरीदकर उस पर निर्माण नहीं कर सकती थीं। एक दिन राजीव गांधी की जीप सिंह की ज़मीन के पास खराब हो गई। ठंडी होने में दो घंटे लगे, और सिंह पूरे वक्त समझाते रहे कि एक प्राइवेट शहर देश के लिए क्या कर सकता है। ये उनका अपना बताया किस्सा ��ै। बाद में हरियाणा ने लाइसेंस वाले प्राइवेट कॉलोनाइज़र्स को इजाज़त दे दी।

दूसरी दिक्कत थी किसान। सिंह ने एजेंट नहीं भेजे, खुद गए। चारपाई पर बैठे, चाय पी, शादियों और अंतिम संस्कारों में पहुंचे। अपनी आत्मकथा में वे लिखते हैं कि कई बार बिना कागज़, सिर्फ हाथ मिलाकर एडवांस दे दिया। करीब 3,500 एकड़ जोड़ने में लगभग 20 साल लगे, एक-एक प्लॉट करके।

तीसरी दिक्कत ये थी कि वहां रहने की कोई वजह ही नहीं थी। नौकरियां नहीं थीं। तो उन्होंने GE को पकड़ा। जैक वेल्च भारत आने से मना कर चुके थे। सिंह ने उन्हें बुलाने में मदद की, कुछ हद तक ताजमहल के सूर्यास्त के बहाने। कुछ साल बाद GE ने गुड़गांव में DLF की एक बिल्डिंग में छोटा-सा दफ्तर खोला, और भारत का आउटसोर्सिंग बूम वह���ं से शुरू हुआ।

सरकार ने सड़क, बिजली, पानी नहीं दिया। DLF ने खुद बनाया।

आज The Camellias के फ्लैट, जो करीब ₹22,500 प्रति वर्ग फुट पर लॉन्च हुए थे, ₹75,000 से ₹88,000 में दोबारा बिकते हैं। उस इलाके में कुछ घर ₹100 करोड़ से ऊपर जाते हैं। DLF की कीमत करीब ₹1,50,000 करोड़ है।

जिस ज़मीन पर सब हंसते थे, उन्होंने वही खरीदी। फिर 40 साल इंतज़ार किया।

In 2007, Kerala's Vigilance department opened a corruption case against a police officer.

Over the next 19 years he was promoted again and again.

He became Additional Director General. Then Director General of Police, the highest rank in the state force. He retired at the top in 2023.

Last week a court convicted him.

His name is Tomin J Thachankary.

The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau registered the case in 2007, after a complaint by an anti corruption activist named Bobby Kuruvila.

The allegation was that between January 2003 and July 2007, Thachankary had acquired houses, flats and other property worth far more than he could have earned.

The chargesheet was filed in 2013. That is 6 years to write it.

By the time it was filed, he had already been promoted to Additional Director General of Police.

He challenged the proceedings and asked to be discharged, saying some of the properties had come to him through family partition and through gifts. The court rejected that and the trial went ahead.

While the trial ran, he kept rising. He reached the rank of Director General of Police, and he retired in 2023 with that rank.

On 17th September 2026, the Vigilance Court in Kottayam found him guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act. It held that he had amassed assets worth about 64.70 lakh rupees that he could not account for.

He was sentenced to 4 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined 30,84,892 rupees. If he does not pay the fine, he serves 2 more months.

The court said something specific when it sentenced him. Because he had held a top post in the state police force, he was not entitled to any leniency.

He was taken into custody and moved to the Central Jail in Thiruvananthapuram.

He is the first officer of Director General rank in Kerala's history to be convicted and sentenced in a corruption case.

One detail matters for what happens next. Because the sentence is longer than 3 years, he cannot get bail from any lower court. He has to go to the High Court.

The public prosecutor made one remark afterwards that is worth keeping.

He pointed out how difficult it is for investigating officers to build a case when the accused is a serving senior police officer.

Think about what that means in practice. The men investigating him were police officers. He outranked almost all of them for most of those 19 years. At various points he would have been in a position to influence their postings.

It still ended in a conviction.

19 years, one activist's complaint, and a man who reached the top of the force before the case caught up with him.

DBS को ब्रेन पेसमेकर' भी कहते हैं और यह सर्जरी न्यूरोलॉजिकल बीमारी से जूझ रहे मरीजों के लिए एक वरदान है.
DBS दुनिया की पहली सर्जरी नहीं है। इसका इस्तेमाल दुनिया भर में 1990 के दशक से हो रहा है लेकिन जब लोग पहली बार किसी मरीज को ऑपरेशन टेबल पर होश में रहते हुए, सर्जरी के तुरंत बाद अपनी कांपती उंगलियों और हाथों पर पूर्ण नियंत्रण पाते देखते हैं, तो यह किसी चमत्कार जैसा लगता है.
पार्किंसंस बीमारी में मरीज के हाथ-पैर इस हद तक कांपते हैं कि वह एक चम्मच पानी भी खुद नहीं पी सकता. लेकिन इस सर्जरी के दौरान जैसे ही डॉक्टर मस्तिष्क के सटीक बिंदु पर इलेक्ट्रोड रखकर हल्का इलेक्ट्रिकल करंट चालू करते हैं, मरीज के हाथों का कंपकंपाना ��र जकड़न कुछ ही सेकंड में रुक जाती है.
यह बदलाव इतना तुरंत और हैरान कर देने वाला होता है कि देखने वाले के लिए यह किसी जादू जैसा लगता है.
सर्जरी टेबल पर मरीज का जगा रहना और डॉक्टर के सवालों का जवाब देना, कभी-कभी गाना गाना, मोबाइल चलाना या सेल्फी वीडियो बनाना–लोगों के लिए बहुत अनूठा दृश्य होता है.
मस्तिष्क में दर्द के रिसेप्टर्स नहीं होते, इसलिए सिर का बाहरी हिस्सा सुन्न करने के बाद मरीज को दर्द का अहसास नहीं होता.

डॉक्टर मरीज की खोपड़ी में सूक्ष्म छेद करके मस्तिष्क के उस विशेष हिस्से जैसे Subthalamic Nucleus में बेहद पतले इलेक्ट्रोड डालते हैं, जो शरीर के कंपन, अकड़न और संतुलन को नियंत्रित करता है.
इन तारों को त्वचा के नीचे से लाते हुए छाती के ऊपरी हिस्से में लगे एक छोटे उपकरण न्यूरोस्टिमुलेटर या बैटरी से जोड़ दिया जाता है.
यह बैटरी मस्तिष्क के असामान्य या गड़बड़ सिग्नल देने वाले हिस्सों को लगातार हल्के इलेक्ट्रिकल पल्स भेजती है. इससे मस्तिष्क के वे सिग्नल रुक जाते हैं जो कपकंपी और जकड़न पैदा करते हैं.
डॉक्टर दिमाग की हर उस Cell की विद्युत तरंगों को एक लाउडस्पीकर के जरिए सुनते हैं जो बीमारी फैला रही है. मरीज जब उंगलियां हिलाता है या बोलता है, तो डॉक्टर Subthalamic Nucleus की पहचान 80 माइक्रोन से भी कम मार्जिन के साथ सटीक रूप से कर पाते हैं.
DBS सर्जरी पार्किंसंस को जड़ से तो खत्म नहीं करती, लेकिन यह बीमारी के लक्षणों को 10 से 15 साल पीछे जरूर धकेल देती है जो मरीज व्हीलचेयर या दूसरों की मदद पर निर्भर हो चुके होते हैं, वे दोबारा आत्मनिर्भर होकर अपनी सामान्य जिंदगी जीने लगते हैं.
दवाओं की भारी खुराक और उनके साइड-इफेक्ट्स पर निर्भरता काफी कम हो जाती है.

When elephants sleep, they reveal a side of their lives that we rarely get to see ! Here, a herd of wild elephants is sleeping peacefully on an island of tall grass in Assam. Elephants can rest and doze while standing, remaining ready to move at the first sign of danger. But lying down is different. It allows the body to relax fully and is associated with deeper, restorative sleep, including REM sleep, the stage linked with dreaming. A landmark study of two free-ranging African elephant matriarchs found that they slept for only about two hours a day. They sometimes remained awake for nearly two days and lay down to sleep only once every three or four nights.

Sleep patterns vary between individuals, ages, species and environments, and much remains to be understood about sleep among wild Asian elephants. But researchers know that elephants are more likely to lie down when they feel comfortable and secure.

That is what makes this sight so beautiful. A herd lying asleep together shows they have allowed their vigilance to trust the landscape around them.

आज जब योग को अक्सर केवल आसन, फिटनेस और शरीर को लचीला बनाने के माध्यम के रूप में देखा जाता है, तब ��्वामी देवमूर्ति जी की योग-दृष्टि हमें योग के उस गहरे आध्यात्मिक स्वरूप की याद दिलाती है जिसमें शरीर केवल साधन है और लक्ष्य है — प्राण, मन और चेतना की साधना।

स्वामी देवमूर्ति जी 20वीं शताब्दी के उन अग्रणी भारतीय योगाचार्यों में थे जिन्होंने यूरोप में भारतीय योग, ध्यान और प्राणायाम की परंपरा को पहुँचाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। वे उसी दौर के थे जिसमें B.K.S. Iyengar जैसे महान योगाचार्य भी पश्चि��� में योग को स्थापित कर रहे थे; लेकिन देवमूर्ति जी की विशेषता यह थी कि उनका जोर केवल आसनों पर नहीं, बल्कि योग के आंतरिक और अनुभवात्मक पक्ष पर था।

उनकी साधना में प्राणायाम, ध्यान, श्वास की शक्ति और चेतना का विकास विशेष महत्व रखते थे। उनके द्वारा सिखाई गई परंपराओं का प्रभाव यूरोप के योग-जगत में आगे उनके शिष्यों के माध्यम से भी दिखाई देता है। उदाहरण के लिए, European Yoga Union के योग-इतिहास में J. Čumpelík को स्वामी देवमूर्ति जी का शिष्य बताया गया है।

यह जानना भी महत्वपूर्ण है कि देवमूर्ति जी की शिक्षाएँ केवल “योगासन” तक सीमित नहीं थीं। उनकी दृष्टि में योग एक जीवंत आध्यात्मिक अनुशासन था—श्वास से प्राण तक, प्राण से मन तक और मन से चेतना की गहराइयों तक जाने की यात्रा।

आज के समय में जब योग विश्वभर में लोकप्रिय है, ऐसे अग्रदूतों को याद करना इसलिए आवश्यक है क्योंकि उन���होंने उस समय भारतीय योग की गहराई को दुनिया तक पहुँचाया जब पश्चिम में योग अभी अपनी पहचान बना ही रहा था।

🙏 स्वामी देवमूर्ति जी को नमन — उन साधकों में से एक, जिन्होंने योग को केवल व्यायाम नहीं, बल्कि आत्म-अन्वेषण की साधना के रूप में दुनिया के सामने रखा।

Rescue volunteer R. Rajesh didn't hesitate.

He battled the powerful currents, reached the stranded farmer, and began bringing him back to safety. But when Benny struggled to stay afloat, Rajesh made an unimaginable decision—he removed his own life jacket and secured it onto the elderly farmer.

Benny survived.
Rajesh was swept away by the floodwaters and never returned.

After Mithun Lakshman Swain, a native of Odisha's Ganjam district working in Surat, was declared brain-dead, his family made the courageous decision to donate his organs.
