Dear Comrades,
The fight for Five-Day Banking must not be seen merely as a struggle for implementation of an agreement that has remained pending for more than 30 months. This is a fight for our existence, our dignity, our families and our fundamental right to a humane working life.
Public Sector Bank employees serve far more customers than our private-sector counterparts. Even with private banks accounting for a substantial share of the banking market, it is overwhelmingly the Public Sector Banks and their employees who carry the burden of Government-sponsored schemes, financial inclusion, social-sector banking and the last-mile delivery of public policy.
We work for institutions owned by the people and for a Government that expects us to reach every citizen. We have never shied away from that responsibility. But those who expect us to serve the nation must also recognise one simple truth:
We are not robots. We are not machines. We are not AI tools. We are human beings.
We have families waiting for us, children who need our time, parents who need our care, and lives beyond targets, reviews, late-night meetings and relentless workplace pressure.
We are not asking for privilege. We are asking for dignity, balance and justice.
The growing culture of excessive working hours, constant pressure and an increasingly toxic work environment cannot become the new normal. Five-Day Banking is one important step towards restoring humanity to our workplaces.
Save the banker. Save the banking family. Respect the commitment already made.
Five-Day Banking is not a luxury.
It is not an unreasonable demand.
It is a just demand whose time has come.
Let us stand together, for ourselves, for our families and for the generations of bankers who will come after us.
Five-Day Banking is For Dignity. For Family. For a Humane Workplace.
March ahead with courage and unity for the three-day strike from 28th to 30th September and make it a resounding success. No fear, no threat and no intimidation can weaken our collective resolve. Officers and employees stand together , we are all strikers in this historic struggle.
General Secretary

5 Days Banking is 'Demand'
PLI Disparity is 'Disrespect'
Disrespect to Our Commitment
Disrespect to Our Hard Work
Disrespect to Our Loyalty
Disrespect to Our Cadre
Disrespect to Our Unity
If U believe,
5% generate 95% Profit
5% doing 95% of Work
Do Quarter Closing without 95%
🚨 OPEN LETTER TO THE FINANCE MINISTRY — ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
The Finance Ministry has appealed through PIB to bank employees not to go on strike. Let us make one thing clear:
We are not asking for charity. We are demanding our rights.
1️⃣ Removing PLI is NOT a favour
The PLI system was introduced and imposed by the authorities. Banking cannot be reduced to a target-driven system alone. Banking is built on trust, responsibility and public service.
If a policy creates problems for employees and is subsequently withdrawn, presenting its withdrawal as a “concession” or a favour is unfair.
2️⃣ Salary hikes, welfare and promotions are NOT favours
The government may highlight salary revisions, increased welfare funds, promotions and recruitment as achievements.
But salary revision is not charity—it is part of our legitimate service conditions and negotiated settlements.
The government also highlights around 4.82 lakh bank recruitments between 2014 and 2026.
But at the same time, thousands of new branches have been opened, while the workload associated with government schemes and banking services has increased enormously.
Jan Dhan accounts, Mudra loans, insurance schemes, pension schemes, KYC/AML compliance, financial inclusion, digital banking and countless other responsibilities ultimately fall on bank employees.
Today, one employee may be handling cash, customer service, loans, recovery, KYC, insurance-related work and multiple government schemes simultaneously.
And when the lights remain on in a branch even after official working hours, remember—it is the hard work of bank employees keeping them on.
3️⃣ Please don’t lecture bank employees about public inconvenience
We understand that a strike can cause inconvenience to customers, especially around important banking deadlines and half-yearly closing.
But bank employees also have a legitimate question:
Who considers the inconvenience faced by bank employees?
Who remembers the employees who:
• Worked on Sundays for financial-inclusion and Jan Dhan drives?
• Worked extraordinarily long hours during demonetisation?
• Kept branches functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic while risking their own safety?
• Continue to work on Saturdays?
• Often remain in branches beyond official working hours to complete targets, compliance and customer-related work?
Are bank employees not human beings?
Don’t they have families?
Don’t they deserve time with their children, spouses and parents?
Don’t they deserve adequate rest and a healthy work-life balance?
4️⃣ Our demand is simple — 5-Day Banking
We are demanding a 5-day working week for banks.
This is not a luxury.
It is about work-life balance, employee well-being and equality with other sectors where a five-day working week has already become a norm.
If government departments, insurance institutions and many corporate organisations can operate with a five-day workweek, bank employees naturally ask:
Why should banking employees be treated differently?
Bank employees have continuously supported the country’s financial system and implemented countless government initiatives at the grassroots level.
Now, the workforce deserves a better working structure too.
🚨 28–30 SEPTEMBER — BANK STRIKE
If the issue remains unresolved:
🚨 INDEFINITE STRIKE FROM 26 OCTOBER
The message is simple:
We are not asking for special treatment.
We are asking for 5-Day Banking.
We are asking for dignity, balance and a better working environment.
5-DAY BANKING — A DEMAND FOR THE BANKING WORKFORCE.

Every 24x7 banking service has a banker behind it and a family waiting at home. We agreed to the 5-day week in March 2024 and accepted longer weekday hours. The regulator, the insurer and the Government all work 5 days.
Our demand is just. The delay is not.
#5DayBankingNow #AIBOC @PMOIndia
Bankers keep India connected 24×7.
But behind every transaction, target and deadline is a human being, with a family, responsibilities and a life beyond the branch.
A 5-day week was agreed in March 2024, with bankers accepting longer working hours from Monday to Friday.
The demand is reasonable. The commitment is proven. The delay is difficult to justify.
Implement 5-Day Banking now.
