@hbg314@KIN110UofR Striving for more eco-friendly sports products is a great initiative. I thinks other brands should take after what Nike/Adidas are doing to be more environmentally conscious with their products. Methods of shipment for sports products should use compostable/reusable materials
@KIN110UofR Artificial snow was used in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This requires massive quantities of water which is environmentally concerning - Beijing is already a water-scarce area. How many estimated gallons of water do you think it took to make the snow?
https://t.co/ipaFMHMubD @KIN110UofR This article talks about Lionel Conacher, who was both an athlete and Canadian politician. He was involved in a multitude of sports and entered politics following his retirement as an athlete in 1937.
https://t.co/9roKSw07Kr @KIN110UofR In regard to sports and media, women have been presented and treated differently compared to men in the sports industry. This video uses satire to depict how female media coverage can be sexist and focus on appearance over accomplishment.
@HughNestor2@KIN110UofR Newspapers do relay sports news, however, I am curious to see what role newspapers will serve as in the future. Technology has now made finding news much easier and convenient through digital media platforms - which are continuing to expand.
@hbg314@KIN110UofR If women are violent in sport many assumptions may be made about their character. In some cases, fans may view this as admirable, or they may see them as erratic/unstable. I think this can depend on the degree and type of violence being displayed.
https://t.co/jAUuuW5qA9 @KIN110UofR Playing through injury can be a serious health concern in sport. Unfortunately, prioritizing one’s health may cause athletes to be seen as “unsuitable” for sport. This article touches on some risks athletes may face by playing through the pain
@MartonMakenna@KIN110UofR I think Tylenol and Advil aren’t definitively deviant, but have the potential to be misused. These medications can be used to create a physiological advantage/increase performance or to lessen symptoms of sickness. The intention behind taking the medication is important.
@KIN110UofR Fans and spectators may engage in violent behaviour during sporting events. The attached article touches on how over-identification, alcohol, hyper-masculine culture, sociological factors, and group dynamics can contribute to this behaviour. https://t.co/HIMhLRoVvO
@Cas6760@KIN110UofR One of my previous assistant coaches in basketball demonstrated poor choice in language to myself and other players. This took place during and outside of practise. The commentary was sarcastic and inappropriate. A teacher would be seen as unprofessional if they spoke this way.
@KIN110UofR Caffeine/energy drinks can be used to enhance performance and are typically not viewed as deviant in sport, but how does this apply to younger athletes? At what age is it considered “normal” or “acceptable” to consume these beverages for their benefits?
Diamond DeShields plays in the WNBA for the Dallas Wings. When she’s not playing basketball, her outfits express both masculine and feminine characteristics. The article attached mentions both sides of her style spectrum.

@matz_emmett@KIN110UofR I think 8.5 million dollars is too much money. The renovation itself is ok, but the cash amount for these renovations is questionable. Changes could include lowering the cost or exploring other ways this money could be used to greater benefit a larger population.
Here is a before/after photo of my elementary playground. The new playground looks welcoming with different structures and bright colours. However, the new climbing wall, monkey bars, and metal slides could be unsafe - similar to aspects of the old playground. @KIN110UofR
@KIN110UofR Ryneldi Becenti became the first Native American to play in the WNBA in 1997. She is an elite basketball player, role model, and inspiration to Indigenous athletes. https://t.co/8pFJUBXBUC
@KIN110UofR Sport is about making mistakes, growing, and learning. It’s important to consider how a child perceives what their parent is voicing. I have seen online creators speak out and address what is and isn’t appropriate behaviour. Creating an awareness reminds parents to be respectful
@megpearce04@KIN110UofR One thing that stood out to me was the part stating that Canadian girls leave sport because they feel it hasn’t been designed for them, not because they devalue it. With this in mind, focusing more attention on women’s involvement in sport is a great step to address this.
@KIN110UofR Conflict theorists see the world divided by social classes. This article touches on how money undoubtedly has influence on middle/lower-class families and their decision to involve their children in sport. #Conflicttheoy

@KIN110UofR Defining a sport is challenging. I view it as applying the use of technical and tactical skills in a competitive environment. I think factors such as motor/physical movement, strategy, and specific rules/guidelines also need to be involved.
