@Davebookham@Xeon4f145d96s1 The entire country is crying out for more doctors of all specialities.
Health Education England (and by therefore by extension the government) dictates the number of training positions available for resident doctors.
The decision not to fund more resident doctors is purposeful.
@ibuybritish@alex4peneast 9.25k per year for tuition fees
Up to 9k per year for maintenance grants for the poorest students who are disproportionately more affected by this.
Effective loan of ~18k per year. Which compounds with interest every year. I had just under £100k debt by the time of graduation.
@ryan_m910@alex4peneast An educated populace is good for society, from healthcare, engineering, artificial intelligence, art and beyond.
I agree that this policy won’t happen in the UK, a population with a serious affliction of tall poppy syndrome, but I disagree that non-graduates subsidise anything.
@AlexPanton1@helen_barnowl@JonJHilton It certainly isn’t dire for everyone in healthcare - a very large proportion do not work unsociable hours.
Your sympathy isn’t needed nor even wanted. Healthcare is expensive and doctors are tired of subsidising this with low wages. You will pay one way or another.
@BennyGailius@Jinggyyi@GHMansfield Curious - What would you consider a good reason to ignore a DNACPR that was already in place?
As this is the UK presumably the patient is aware and most likely in agreement (as most are after a proper discussion).
@GHMansfield This is not your decision to make - it is the clinicians.
Patients do not get to demand treatment (which is what CPR is). They only get to accept what is offered by trained professionals.
You cannot walk into the GP surgery and demand morphine if not required. Same rules apply.
@colorfulygo @LiangRhea I think you’ll find most doctors would be more than happy with this.
I couldn’t think of much things worse than referring to myself as doctor outside of the hospital as it’s nearly always met with “what’s this lump” at best and nasty remarks about greed at worst.
@theveindoc@DrChrisWarner@histevedaly Maybe. From my experience of those from wealth at university its that their perception of reality is completely warped, so whilst I have my serious doubts about your struggles I somewhat believe that was your experience.
But you’re we shouldn’t assume anything - both ways.
@theveindoc@DrChrisWarner@histevedaly Anyone who spouts this nonsense exposes themselves as a wealthy middle class individual who has never endured financial struggle in their life.
The salary of a career is paramount to those not privileged to have had your upbringing.
@upthejunction28@adilray Yes the healthcare professionals who had to continue to work whilst the majority of this country sat on their arse earning money for sweet FA - they are the true villains 🤣
